Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi: MBBS Fees 2026-27, Seats and Admission
Amrita School of Medicine at Edappally, Kochi, is a deemed university and stands outside the Kerala state counselling: its MBBS seats are filled through the central MCC counselling on NEET all-India rank. It is also by far the most expensive MBBS seat in Kerala. Its own 2026-27 fee table lists 149 seats and a general tuition of ₹25,00,000 a year, ₹1,12,50,000 for 4.5 years.
In short: Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi, charges ₹25,00,000 a year in tuition for MBBS in its 2026-27 fee table, ₹1,12,50,000 for 4.5 years, and lists 149 seats. Admission is through MCC deemed-university counselling, not CEE Kerala. For the same money a family could pay six years of tuition at a Russian state university (about ₹16–32 lakh) more than three times over.

Amrita MBBS fees 2026-27
Deemed universities set their own fees, which are not fixed by the Kerala Fee Regulatory Committee. Amrita publishes its fee table on its own MBBS page. For 2026-27 the general-category tuition is ₹25,00,000 a year. Hostel, mess and other charges are extra.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Tuition per year, 2026-27 | ₹25,00,000 |
| Tuition for 4.5 years | ₹1,12,50,000 |
| Kerala self-financing general seat, 54 months (for comparison) | ₹36.5–41.9 lakh |
| Kerala government seat, 54 months (for comparison) | about ₹1.04 lakh |
Check the current table on Amrita's site before you register; deemed-university fees can change from year to year, and some charge an advance or security deposit at the time of joining.
How admission to Amrita works
Amrita is a deemed university, so its MBBS seats go through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), the same body that runs the All India Quota. You register on the MCC portal, pay the deemed-university registration fee and security deposit, and choose Amrita among your options in the deemed round. Selection is by NEET-UG all-India rank; there is no KEAM rank and no state domicile rule. Because the fee is so high, deemed seats often go to ranks far below those of government seats, and they stay open into the later MCC rounds.
That is exactly why Amrita appears on the shortlist of families whose rank is too low for a Kerala government or affordable self-financing seat. Before you take that step, set the figure against the alternatives.
Why choose a Russian university over Amrita
This is the comparison most families ask us for, point by point, with the figures from the official orders.
No rank race
Amrita takes students on NEET all-India rank through MCC, at ₹25,00,000 a year. A Russian state university admits on the NEET-UG qualifying mark and 50% in Class 12 physics, chemistry and biology (40% for reserved categories). No state rank list, no waiting for rounds.
Lower total tuition
Six years of tuition at a Russian state university, against ₹1,12,50,000 for Amrita over 4.5 years. The difference usually covers hostel and flights for the whole course.
Price fixed before you fly
The fee for foreign students is set in the university's price order and written into your contract year by year. In Kerala the Fee Regulatory Committee refixes fees, and hostel and special fees come on top.
Transparent payment
Fees go to the university's bank account against its invoice. There is no capitation, no management-seat payment and no booking amount to a middleman.
No lost year
Many Russian universities accept Indian students into October and November. A student who misses the last KEAM round can still start medicine in the same academic year.
Choose by results
You pick from 54 English-medium universities on our list and see each one's FMGE results; the best pass more than one candidate in three. In Kerala, at a late rank, you take the seat that is left.
What Russia does not give you: home food, a Kerala hospital during the course, and a licence without the exam. Every graduate of a foreign university must pass FMGE (later NExT) and do a year of internship in India. Choose a university with strong FMGE results and plan the exam from the first year.
Comparing Amrita with Russia?
We set the Amrita fee next to two Russian universities and the Kerala colleges at your rank, for the whole course.
Amrita or MBBS in Russia?
The difference here is not a few lakh, as with Kerala self-financing colleges; it is close to a crore. A Russian state university with strong FMGE results costs ₹16–32 lakh in tuition for six years. Hostel, food and flights add roughly ₹2.3–4.0 lakh a year in a regional city, about ₹14–24 lakh over six years, and the family still spends about half of Amrita's tuition or less. What the student gives up is study near home and an Indian degree without the licensing exam: a Russian graduate must pass FMGE or NExT and do a year of internship in India.
| Option | Tuition per year | Tuition for the course | What you also need |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amrita, Kochi | ₹25 lakh | ₹1.125 crore (4.5 years) | MCC deemed counselling on NEET rank |
| Chuvash State University (Russia) | ₹2.8 lakh | about ₹16.6 lakh (6 years) | Hostel, food, flights, FMGE after return |
| Mordovia State University (Russia) | ₹4.0 lakh | about ₹24 lakh (6 years) | Same; FMGE 32.0% in 2022–25 |
| Kazan State Medical University (Russia) | ₹5.4 lakh | about ₹32 lakh (6 years) | Same; FMGE 30.5% in 2022–25 |
Three rules decide whether a Russian degree is worth anything back home. The NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021 require at least 54 months of study in English, a 12-month internship at the same university, and a licence to practise in Russia; then the graduate must pass FMGE (to be replaced by NExT) and do 12 more months of internship in India. Across all Russian universities about one candidate in four passed FMGE in 2022–2025, but the spread is wide: Orenburg 38.6%, Privolzhsky 36.9%, Smolensk 35.4%, Mordovia 32.0%, while several others are under 15%. The full list is on our FMGE pass-rate page.
Kochi families who look at Russia usually fly from Cochin International Airport (COK) through the Gulf and attest certificates at the NORKA Roots office in Ernakulam. Read how to choose a consultant in Kochi, compare the Kerala seats on medical colleges in Kerala, and see the MBBS fees in Kerala vs Russia page.
Questions to ask before paying a deemed university
Ask for the complete fee schedule for all years in writing, including hostel, mess and any one-time charges; the refund rule if you leave after an MCC upgrade; and the security deposit terms of the MCC deemed round. Ask the same questions of a Russian university: the contract in English, the price order for foreign students and the hostel charge. Families who compare written figures decide quickly. Families who compare brochures usually decide too late.
