Searches for "Chuvash State Medical University" lead to I.N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University in Cheboksary, a city in Chuvashia on the Volga, about 600 km from Moscow in a straight line. It is a classical university, not a standalone medical school: medicine is taught in its Medical Faculty, which NBEMS lists in the FMGE reports as "Chuvash State University Medical Institute". It is a federal state budgetary institution of higher education, so it is a public university. It was founded in 1967 and named after I.N. Ulyanov (also spelled Ulianov) by a decree of 30 November 1967. According to the Russian Wikipedia, its first 25 foreign students were admitted in 1991.
The address is Moskovsky Prospekt 15, Cheboksary. The official website is chuvsu.ru. We could not open it from our office, but the admissions site, abiturient.chuvsu.ru, publishes the 2025 price file for foreign students, and the fee figures below come from it. We found no count of Indian students and no confirmed students from Kerala. That is why this page gives the figures we can source and tells you what to ask, instead of repeating brochure claims.

Families searching for Chuvash State Medical University fees or Chuvash State University fees will find agent tables with different numbers. The university's own price file for foreign students (admissions site abiturient.chuvsu.ru, 2025 intake) has separate columns by language of study. If you see a page showing Chuvash State Medical University fees 2022 or fees 2021, it is out of date; Russian fees change almost every year. Here is what we have:

It is for the 2025 intake and we did not find a 2026 file, so ask Chuvash State University for the current price list for foreign students in writing and check that the contract matches it.

Living cost in Cheboksary
We have no verified monthly living cost for Cheboksary. The budget is made of food, a mobile plan and internet, local transport, study material and winter clothing. A smaller Volga city is usually cheaper than Moscow, but we have no data to quote, so ask Indian seniors what they spend in a normal month before you fix the family budget.
Chuvash State Medical University hostel and hostel fees
Agents quote the hostel at about 75,000 roubles a year (about ₹0.85 lakh) or 80,000 roubles (about ₹0.9 lakh), taken from agent tables, not from the university. We have no confirmed information on room size, how many students share, or whether the hostel is on campus. The university has not published a hostel fee in a form we could read. Ask for it in writing together with the tuition, per year and per month.
Parents often ask about the girls hostel at Chuvash State University. We have no information on how rooms are allocated. Ask the international office whether female students are placed on separate floors, who is at the entrance, whether there are cameras, and how far the hostel is from the medical faculty. Ask also about shared kitchens, because most Indian students cook at least some meals.
NEET cut-off and eligibility
We found no NEET cut-off set by Chuvash State University above the national qualifying score. What you need is the NEET-UG qualifying score for your category, because without it an Indian graduate cannot practise in India:
- NEET-UG: qualified, result valid for three years. In NEET-UG 2026 the qualifying score was 213 out of 720 for general and EWS, 194 for general PwBD and 177 for SC, ST and OBC (144, 127 and 113 in 2025).
- Class 12: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, with at least 50% in PCB (40% for reserved categories).
- Age: 17 by 31 December of the admission year.
We do not know whether the medical faculty holds an entrance test or interview for Indian applicants. There is no published acceptance rate. Is Chuvash State Medical University taught in English?
The university's 2025 price file for foreign students has a separate English column, so an English-medium line exists on paper. It does not say that all six years, including the hospital years, are taught in English, and it also lists a Russian-language line and a translator-service line. Agent pages disagree: one says "English" and notes that the programme also runs in Russian, another says "English and Russian". We cannot verify those claims.
The NMC needs the whole course in English, so this is the most important question on this page. Ask Chuvash State University for a letter that says: English-medium, six years, internship at the same university. Also ask how many hours of Russian are in the plan and how clinical training works with Russian-speaking patients. If the answer is vague, treat it as a sign to look elsewhere.

NBEMS publishes FMGE results for every foreign university. The older "MCI result" is the same exam; FMGE was run for the Medical Council of India before the NMC replaced it. In 2021, 0 of 3 passed. In 2022, 27.8% passed (10 of 36) against a Russian average of 26.0%. In 2023, 10.9% passed (5 of 46) against 19.4%, which is below the average. In 2024, 32.1% passed (25 of 78) against 29.5%. In June 2025, 21.1% passed (8 of 38) against 18.1%. In December 2025, 37.9% passed (25 of 66) against 30.9%.

Over 2022–2025 combined, 73 of 264 candidates passed, which is 27.7% against a Russian average of about 25%. The university was above the average in four of the five yearly or half-yearly reports since 2022 and below it once, in 2023. Fewer than 300 candidates sat the exam in 2022–2025, so Chuvash is not ranked on our ranking. The numbers are bigger than for many small universities and the picture is steady, but they do not show how many of these graduates studied in English. Safety at Chuvash State University and in Cheboksary
Chuvashia is not one of the border regions (Bryansk, Belgorod, Kursk) for which the Indian Embassy in Moscow advised in August 2024 that Indians take precautions and relocate temporarily, and it is not in the North Caucasus. Life in Cheboksary for Kerala students
Cheboksary is a Volga city in Chuvashia, in the Moscow time zone, 2.5 hours behind India. We have no verified information on the Indian or Malayali community in the city, on Indian restaurants or on Indian groceries. Students cook in hostel kitchens, and spices and rice can be brought from Kerala in the first suitcase. Ask the university to connect you with Indian seniors before you decide.
Cheboksary averages −10.0 °C in January and 19.7 °C in July (1991–2020 climate normals, Wikipedia). Expect a Russian winter, with months below zero, and plan for a warm coat, boots and thermal layers in the first autumn. If you want to see the place, the official site and student groups are the places to look for Chuvash State University photos; ask the international office for current photos of the hostel rooms and kitchens, not only of the main building.

Chuvash State University is in Cheboksary, Moskovsky Prospekt 15. The distance from Cheboksary to Moscow is about 600 km in a straight line. Cheboksary uses Moscow time. Ask the university whether a domestic flight, a train or a bus works best from Moscow; we have no verified schedule to quote.
From Kerala there is no direct flight to Russia. The usual route is Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram or Kozhikode to Moscow through Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Doha or Delhi, then onward to Cheboksary. Scholarships, syllabus and courses
We found no Chuvash State University scholarship that cuts tuition for Indian students. The Russian government offers a limited number of state-funded places to foreign citizens each year through its quota programme, applied for on the official education-in-russia.com portal; competition is high and places in medicine are few. Indian families should plan to pay the full fee.
The General Medicine syllabus follows the Russian federal standard for specialty 31.05.01. A typical six-year plan looks like this; ask the medical faculty for its own curriculum before you sign:

The first years cover the basic sciences, then clinical subjects follow, with hospital practice in the senior years. Clinical training means talking to Russian-speaking patients, so students who learn Russian well in the first two years cope much better. Chuvash State University is a classical university with many faculties, but the programme we can confirm for medicine is General Medicine in its medical faculty.

Chuvash charges about ₹1.2 to 2.1 lakh a year less than the other three, has the same combined FMGE result as Perm and a better one than Altai and Voronezh. Voronezh is also in a region that needs its own safety check. After graduation: FMGE, internship and registration in Kerala
Chuvash State University awards the Russian specialist diploma in General Medicine after six years. To practise in India, a graduate then needs to:
- Pass FMGE, held by NBEMS three times a year since 2026 (the NMC plans to replace it with NExT, with no date yet).
- Complete a 12-month supervised internship in India, as the NMC requires for foreign graduates.
- Register with the Travancore-Cochin Medical Council to practise in Kerala.
After registration, graduates can take NEET-PG for postgraduate seats in India like any other doctor. Practising in Russia is also possible but needs Russian accreditation and fluent Russian. Plan for a year or more between the diploma and the first salary in India.
