Which year is it? Universities publish fees at different times. Some figures are for 2026-27, some for 2025-26, a few older. Every university raises fees from time to time, often every year. Always ask for the price list for your intake and for the following years before you sign.

Cheapest medical universities in Russia
These are the lowest first-year fees among universities with an official price. A low fee is a reason to look closer, not a reason to choose: check that the programme is taught in English for all six years and look at the FMGE results.

What the total cost is made of
| Item | How it is paid | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition | Per year or per semester, to the university's bank account | The largest item. Usually rises over six years. |
| Hostel | Per month or per year, to the university | State university hostels are cheap: from about 2,000 roubles a month to 70,000 roubles a year in our list. Rooms are shared. |
| Food and daily costs | Monthly | Most students cook in hostel kitchens. Costs are higher in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. |
| Medical insurance | Yearly | Compulsory for foreign students; universities often arrange it. |
| Visa, invitation, registration | Before travel and on arrival | Fees change; ask the visa centre for the current amount. |
| Document attestation and translation | Once, before applying | Apostille in India and notarised translation into Russian. |
| Flights | At least once a year | No direct flight from Kerala; see below. |
| Winter clothing | Once, in the first year | A proper winter jacket, boots, gloves and a hat are not optional. |
| FMGE preparation | During and after the course | Coaching or online courses; budget for it from the third year. |
Tuition over six years: an example
Take a university charging 400,000 roubles a year, close to the middle of our list. At today's rate that is about ₹4.5 lakh a year, or ₹27 lakh in tuition over six years if the fee never changed. In practice fees rise, and the rupee can weaken against the rouble, so a reserve of 10–20% over the six years is sensible. Add the hostel, living costs and flights to get the family budget.
Each university page shows the same six-year calculation with its own fee and hostel.
Hidden costs that agents rarely mention
- Fee increases. A price list for the first year says nothing about the sixth. Ask whether the fee is fixed for the whole course; a few universities, such as Izhevsk, state that the 2025 intake fee stays fixed until graduation.
- Service fees. Some agents add their own charge on top of tuition. Tuition should always be paid to the university's account, with an official receipt.
- Russian language. A preparatory year or language course costs extra if the university requires it.
- Exchange rate. The rupee amount of a rouble fee can move several percent in a year.
- Repeat exams and extra semesters. Failing an exam can mean paying for an extra term.
Flights from Kerala
There is no direct flight from Kerala to Russia. Students fly from Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram or Kozhikode through a Gulf hub such as Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi or Doha, or through Delhi, where Aeroflot flies nonstop to Moscow about once a day. One-way fares we saw for September 2026 dates were roughly ₹45,000–70,000, depending on the route and how early the ticket is bought. Then add the domestic flight or train from Moscow to the university city.
Russia compared with a self-financing seat in Kerala
The fee committee in Kerala fixes fees college by college. As one example, Kerala Medical College, Palakkad charges ₹8,10,175 a year on the general merit quota and ₹22,74,006 a year under the NRI quota. A Russian state university at around ₹4–5 lakh a year in tuition is cheaper than either, before living costs abroad. The trade-off is the FMGE exam, the internship in India after it and six years away from home.

For Kerala families: compare the total for six years, including living costs and flights, with the total for a Kerala seat including hostel. Then add the cost of the extra year (FMGE preparation and the Indian internship) that a foreign graduate needs. Our Kerala vs Russia comparison puts government, self-financing and NRI fees next to Russian price lists.
Education loans and scholarships
Banks in Kerala lend for medical study abroad. SBI's Global Ed-Vantage loan, for example, was priced at 9.40% a year with collateral for general institutions from 9 June 2026; SBI does not name Russian universities on that page, so ask the branch whether your university qualifies. Federal Bank, South Indian Bank and Canara Bank also offer study-abroad loans; terms differ, and loans above a set amount need collateral. The bank will ask for the admission letter and the university's fee structure.
The central Padho Pardesh interest subsidy was discontinued from 2022-23, and the Central Sector Interest Subsidy scheme covers study in India only, so there is no central interest subsidy for MBBS in Russia. The education loan guide covers collateral, margin, an EMI example and the documents banks ask for.
