Travancore Medical College, Kollam (Medicity): MBBS Fees, Cut Off and Seats

Most people who search for Medicity Kollam are looking for the hospital. This page is for the student who wants the MBBS seat at Travancore Medical College, Umayanalloor, the teaching college of the Medicity campus: 200 seats in 2026-27, a 2025-26 tuition of ₹8,56,840 a year, and a last state-merit rank of about 4,600–4,750 in 2026.

In short: Travancore Medical College at Umayanalloor, Kollam, has 200 MBBS seats for 2026-27. The Fee Regulatory Committee order fixed its 2025-26 tuition at ₹8,56,840 a year for a general seat and ₹22,74,006 for an NRI seat, so 54 months of study cost about ₹38.6 lakh (general) or ₹1.02 crore (NRI) before hostel and special fees. In 2026 the last state-merit seat went to KEAM rank 4,582 in round 1 and 4,751 in round 2. For the same budget a Kollam family can pay for six years at most Russian state universities and still keep ₹6–20 lakh in hand.

Travancore Medical College fees 2025-26

The fee is fixed by the Fee Regulatory Committee and published in G.O.(Ms) No. 354/2025/H&FWD of 18 October 2025. Travancore Medical College is in the middle of the self-financing range: ₹8,56,840 a year for a general seat, the same as Malabar and Somervell, against ₹8,10,175 at the lowest and ₹9,31,118 at the highest college in the order. The NRI seat is ₹22,74,006 a year, the same in every college of the order.

Seat typeTuition per year54 months (× 4.5)
General (state merit, all-state)₹8,56,840about ₹38.6 lakh
NRI quota₹22,74,006about ₹1.02 crore
G.O.(Ms) No. 354/2025/H&FWD (FRC 50/25 of 18 September 2025). From 2026 Kerala colleges may charge only for the 54 months of study (G.O.(Rt) No. 2326/2026/H&FWD of 17 July 2026); the committee is refixing the 2026-27 fees, so treat these as the latest notified rates, not the final 2026-27 figure.

Two practical points. First, the 2026-27 fee may change when the committee refixes it for the 54-month rule, and a High Court case on refunds is still open; keep the fee receipt and the allotment memo. Second, tuition is not the whole bill: hostel, mess, university and special fees, books and instruments add up over five and a half years. Ask the college for the full schedule in writing before you pay.

Travancore Medical College cut off: 2026 ranks

The last state-merit seat went to KEAM rank 4,582 in the first allotment and 4,751 in the second. That puts Travancore in the middle group of Kerala's self-financing colleges, with KMCT (5,067 and 5,930), Malabar (5,147 and 5,546) and Somervell in Karakonam (5,329 and 6,414). Sree Gokulam in Venjaramoodu closed earlier, at 3,481 and 3,694, and the colleges near the Thrissur–Ernakulam belt closed under 3,000. A student around rank 4,500 in Kollam or Thiruvananthapuram district will usually find Travancore the nearest college still in reach.

The rank is the KEAM state rank derived from NEET-UG, not your NEET mark. NRI, all-state and other quota seats have separate last ranks in the CEE tables.

Why choose a Russian university over Travancore Medical College

This is the comparison most families ask us for, point by point, with the figures from the official orders.

No rank race

NEET qualifying mark

Travancore took ranks only up to 4,751 in 2026. A Russian state university admits on the NEET-UG qualifying mark and 50% in Class 12 physics, chemistry and biology (40% for reserved categories). No state rank list, no waiting for rounds.

Lower total tuition

₹16–32 lakh

Six years of tuition at a Russian state university, against about ₹38.6 lakh for a Travancore general seat over 54 months. The difference usually covers hostel and flights for the whole course.

Price fixed before you fly

In your contract

The fee for foreign students is set in the university's price order and written into your contract year by year. In Kerala the Fee Regulatory Committee refixes fees, and hostel and special fees come on top.

Transparent payment

Invoice from the university

Fees go to the university's bank account against its invoice. There is no capitation, no management-seat payment and no booking amount to a middleman.

No lost year

Admission into autumn

Many Russian universities accept Indian students into October and November. A student who misses the last KEAM round can still start medicine in the same academic year.

Choose by results

54 universities

You pick from 54 English-medium universities on our list and see each one's FMGE results; the best pass more than one candidate in three. In Kerala, at a late rank, you take the seat that is left.

What Russia does not give you: home food, a Kerala hospital during the course, and a licence without the exam. Every graduate of a foreign university must pass FMGE (later NExT) and do a year of internship in India. Choose a university with strong FMGE results and plan the exam from the first year.

Seats and admission

All 200 seats for 2026-27 are filled through CEE Kerala or, for the NRI share, through the CEE NRI process with sponsor documents. The steps are the same as for every Kerala college: NEET-UG; the KEAM application in January with the medical course selected; the NEET score uploaded in August; the rank list; option registration; allotment; and joining with the fee within the deadline in the allotment memo. Missing the joining deadline cancels the allotment and your higher options.

The hospital and the college share the Medicity campus at Umayanalloor, on the Kollam–Thiruvananthapuram road south of Kollam town. For a student this means clinical exposure in the same campus; for parents it means the college is within a day's travel of most of south Kerala. Thiruvananthapuram International Airport (TRV) is the nearest airport, which also matters if you compare it with studying abroad, where the trip home goes through a Gulf hub.

Travancore Medical College or MBBS in Russia?

A family who can afford ₹8.6 lakh a year has a real choice. Travancore needs a rank inside about 4,750 and costs about ₹38.6 lakh in tuition. With a worse rank, the remaining Kerala colleges close between about 5,000 and 10,800 at the same fee. A Russian state university needs only the NEET qualifying mark (213 out of 720 for general category in 2026) and costs less in tuition, but the student studies six years abroad and must pass FMGE to practise in India.

Three rules decide whether a Russian degree is worth anything back home. The NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021 require at least 54 months of study in English, a 12-month internship at the same university, and a licence to practise in Russia; then the graduate must pass FMGE (to be replaced by NExT) and do 12 more months of internship in India. Across all Russian universities about one candidate in four passed FMGE in 2022–2025, but the spread is wide: Orenburg 38.6%, Privolzhsky 36.9%, Smolensk 35.4%, Mordovia 32.0%, while several others are under 15%. The full list is on our FMGE pass-rate page.

Our view for a Kollam student: if the rank gives you Travancore and the family can pay, a Kerala seat avoids FMGE and the risks of studying abroad. If the rank does not, do not wait for the stray-vacancy round without a plan; price a Russian university in the top third of the FMGE table now.
