Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram: MBBS Cut Off, Fees and Seats 2026
Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram is one of the oldest and most sought-after medical colleges in Kerala. Its MBBS seats cost almost nothing in tuition, which is exactly why they go to the very top of the KEAM list: in 2026 the last state-merit seat went to rank 290 in the first allotment and 365 in the second. This page gives the cut off, the fees and seats, and what a student who misses it by thousands of ranks can realistically do.
In short: Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram has 250 MBBS seats for 2026-27, including the 15% All India Quota allotted by MCC. In the 2026 CEE allotments the last state-merit seat went to KEAM rank 290 (round 1) and 365 (round 2). Tuition is ₹23,150 a year, about ₹1.04 lakh for the whole course. A student who misses it by thousands of ranks chooses between a self-financing seat at ₹36–42 lakh and a Russian state university at ₹16–32 lakh in tuition.

Trivandrum Medical College cut off: KEAM ranks 2026
The last general state-merit seat at Trivandrum Medical College went to KEAM rank 290 in the first CEE allotment of 2026 and 365 in the second. Only Kozhikode closed earlier (144 and 205). Thrissur and Kottayam followed at about 450–550, and the other government colleges between about 600 and 800 in round 2.
The KEAM rank is drawn up from the NEET-UG rank of Kerala candidates, so it is not your NEET mark. The 15% All India Quota seats at Trivandrum Medical College are filled separately by the Medical Counselling Committee on NEET all-India rank, and reserved categories have their own last ranks in the CEE tables.
Trivandrum Medical College MBBS fees
A government seat costs ₹23,150 a year in tuition under G.O.(Ms) No. 92/2023/H&FWD, with a caution deposit of ₹2,320, a miscellaneous fee of ₹1,740 and a van fee of ₹1,740, a total of ₹28,950 for the year. Over the 54 months of study the tuition is about ₹1.04 lakh. Hostel and mess are extra and modest. Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and certain other eligible communities admitted on merit are exempted from fees under the prospectus rules.
The low fee comes with a commitment. Government-college graduates in Kerala are bound by the service conditions in the prospectus for that year; read the bond clause in the KEAM prospectus before you join.
Missed Trivandrum Medical College? Why a Russian university beats a late self-financing seat
This is the comparison most families ask us for, point by point, with the figures from the official orders.
No rank race
Trivandrum Medical College closed at rank 365 in 2026, and the self-financing colleges by about 10,800. A Russian state university admits on the NEET-UG qualifying mark and 50% in Class 12 physics, chemistry and biology (40% for reserved categories). No state rank list, no waiting for rounds.
Lower total tuition
Six years of tuition at a Russian state university, against ₹36.5–41.9 lakh for a Kerala self-financing seat over 54 months. The difference usually covers hostel and flights for the whole course.
Price fixed before you fly
The fee for foreign students is set in the university's price order and written into your contract year by year. In Kerala the Fee Regulatory Committee refixes fees, and hostel and special fees come on top.
Transparent payment
Fees go to the university's bank account against its invoice. There is no capitation, no management-seat payment and no booking amount to a middleman.
No lost year
Many Russian universities accept Indian students into October and November. A student who misses the last KEAM round can still start medicine in the same academic year.
Choose by results
You pick from 54 English-medium universities on our list and see each one's FMGE results; the best pass more than one candidate in three. In Kerala, at a late rank, you take the seat that is left.
What Russia does not give you: home food, a Kerala hospital during the course, and a licence without the exam. Every graduate of a foreign university must pass FMGE (later NExT) and do a year of internship in India. Choose a university with strong FMGE results and plan the exam from the first year.

All main government medical colleges: seats and last ranks 2026
The government colleges fill in a fixed order of preference, and the gap between the first and the last is only a few hundred ranks. If your KEAM rank is above about 800, no government seat is realistic in the state-merit rounds, whichever district you live in.
| Government medical college | Seats | Last rank, round 1 | Last rank, round 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kozhikode | 250 | 144 | 205 |
| Thiruvananthapuram | 250 | 290 | 365 |
| Thrissur | 175 | 457 | 527 |
| Kottayam | 175 | 485 | 542 |
| Alappuzha | 175 | 625 | 731 |
| Manjeri | 110 | 721 | 782 |
| Ernakulam | 110 | 720 | 796 |
| Pariyaram (Kannur) | 100 | 717 | 804 |
Two things move these numbers from year to year: the number of Kerala candidates who qualify NEET, and how many top rankers take All India Quota or AIIMS seats instead. The 2026 NEET re-exam raised the qualifying marks and shifted many ranks, so compare your rank with this year's table, not with 2025 figures quoted by coaching centres.
Seats and how admission works
Trivandrum Medical College has 250 MBBS seats for 2026-27. Of these, 15% go to the All India Quota through MCC; the rest are allotted by CEE Kerala from the KEAM medical rank list. The steps are the same as for every Kerala college: NEET-UG, the KEAM application with the medical course in January, the NEET score upload in August, the rank list, option registration and allotment, then joining with the fee within the deadline. The college was founded in 1951 and sits in Thiruvananthapuram.
Missed Trivandrum Medical College? Your realistic options
Thiruvananthapuram students who miss the government seat usually look first at the self-financing colleges in the district: Sree Gokulam in Venjaramoodu (3,481 and 3,694), Somervell in Karakonam (5,329 and 6,414) and SUT Academy in Vattappara (6,233 and 7,084), all at ₹8.1–8.6 lakh a year. Beyond that the choice is between colleges far from home and a university abroad. The city is also where NORKA Roots has its head office, and TRV airport has the most Gulf connections in south Kerala. Every MBBS college of the district is compared on medical colleges in Thiruvananthapuram.
| Option | Tuition per year | Tuition for the course | What you also need |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trivandrum Medical College, government seat | ₹23,150 | about ₹1.04 lakh (54 months) | A KEAM rank inside about 365 |
| Kerala self-financing, general seat | ₹8.1–9.3 lakh | ₹36.5–41.9 lakh (54 months) | A KEAM rank of roughly 3,500–10,800 |
| Chuvash State University (Russia) | ₹2.8 lakh | about ₹16.6 lakh (6 years) | Hostel, food, flights, FMGE after return |
| Mordovia State University (Russia) | ₹4.0 lakh | about ₹24 lakh (6 years) | Same; FMGE 32.0% in 2022–25 |
| Kazan State Medical University (Russia) | ₹5.4 lakh | about ₹32 lakh (6 years) | Same; FMGE 30.5% in 2022–25 |
Three rules decide whether a Russian degree is worth anything back home. The NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021 require at least 54 months of study in English, a 12-month internship at the same university, and a licence to practise in Russia; then the graduate must pass FMGE (to be replaced by NExT) and do 12 more months of internship in India. Across all Russian universities about one candidate in four passed FMGE in 2022–2025, but the spread is wide: Orenburg 38.6%, Privolzhsky 36.9%, Smolensk 35.4%, Mordovia 32.0%, while several others are under 15%. The full list is on our FMGE pass-rate page.
