Medical universities in Izhevsk, Russia
Izhevsk State Medical Academy (IGMA) is at Kommunarov St. 281. It was founded in 1933 as the Izhevsk State Medical Institute and became an academy later. Sources also call it Izhevsk State Medical University since about 2025, so check which name appears on your contract and admission letter. The academy is a state institution under the Ministry of Health, and the World Directory of Medical Schools lists it with Russian as the language of instruction. An agent page says it has trained foreign students since 1988.
Fee. Order No. 220/07-02 of 30 May 2025 (Academic Council protocol No. 9 of 27 May 2025), Annex 1, gives three General Medicine prices for new entrants of 2025: 233,640 roubles for Russian citizens, 280,368 for foreign citizens studying in Russian, and 350,460 for foreign citizens in English. The English line is about ₹4.0 lakh and the Russian-language line about ₹3.2 lakh at the rate of 15 October 2026. The academy's faculty page for foreign students listed the English price as 263,400 in 2023, 294,000 in 2024 and 350,460 in 2025, which is a rise of about 33% in two years, and says the price does not change until the end of study. The order itself states only the first-year price, so get that promise in the contract. We found no 2026 order in the archive copy we could read; agents quote USD 4,400 a year (about ₹4.2 lakh) and a hostel at USD 1,000 a year.
Language. The faculty page publishes a separate "training in English, General Medicine only" price, so an English track exists. We found no official statement on whether Russian is introduced in the clinical years, and agents who say "all six years in English" are not the university. The NMC rule needs at least 54 months in English, so ask for the hours. See the NMC rules.
FMGE. Izhevsk's record is weak: 1 of 16 passed in 2022 (6.2%), none of 14 in 2023, none of 16 in 2024, none of 6 in June 2025 and 4 of 19 in December 2025 (21.1%). Over 2022–2025, 5 of 71 passed, 7.0%, against the Russian average of about 25%. The 2020 and 2021 sessions are similar: 0 of 15 and 1 of 17. Izhevsk weather for Kerala students
Izhevsk is in Udmurtia, west of the Urals. The 1991–2020 normals give a January mean of −12.1 °C and a July mean of 18.8 °C. That is milder than Siberia but still deep winter by Kerala standards, and cold spells fall well below the mean. The time zone is Moscow plus 1 hour, 1.5 hours behind India.

There is no direct flight from Kerala to Russia, so fly from Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram or Kozhikode to Moscow through a Gulf hub or Delhi, then about 2.1 hours to Izhevsk. The overnight train from Moscow takes about 16.5–17 hours. The city is 970 km from Moscow in a straight line. Ask the academy how it meets first-year students; we have not verified an airport pickup. Cost of living in Izhevsk
We found no official monthly cost for Izhevsk, and the hostel price is an agent figure of USD 1,000 a year (about ₹95,000) that we could not confirm. Budget for tuition, hostel, medical insurance, food, a phone plan, transport and winter clothes, and ask three senior students for their real monthly spend. Add the cost of FMGE preparation, since few of the academy's candidates pass at the first attempt. Indian students and food in Izhevsk
We found no count of Indian students at the academy and no verified source on Indian shops or restaurants in Izhevsk. The FMGE reports show 71 graduates sitting the exam in 2022–2025, so Indian students are present, but in small batches. Izhevsk is also known as the city of Mikhail Kalashnikov, whose name the airport carries. Students cook in hostel kitchens.
