Medical universities in Ryazan, Russia

Ryazan State Medical University named after Academician I.P. Pavlov (RyazSMU) is a federal public university under the Russian Ministry of Health. Russian Wikipedia dates it to 1943, while the World Directory of Medical Schools says instruction began in 1950 and that it received university status in 1993, so ask which date the university itself uses. The address is Vysokovoltnaya Street 9, Ryazan 390026 (WDOMS gives No. 7). It lists Russian, French and English as languages. Its site states that over 1,000 students from 56 countries study there, without an Indian figure, and that 105 first-year places in General Medicine are offered.

Fee from the 2026-27 order. Order No. 136-d of 3 March 2026 "on approving the register of cost of study for 2026-2027 for foreign citizens" (Academic Council of 17 February 2026, protocol No. 7) is a scan we read from the Internet Archive. It prices General Medicine, six years, "with the use of a translator service" at 505,800 roubles a year, 3,034,800 roubles for the whole term, and the same for Paediatrics. At the Central Bank of Russia rate of 15 October 2026 that is about ₹5.7 lakh a year and ₹34.4 lakh in total. General Medicine in Russian for foreigners is priced at 353,400 roubles a year (about ₹4.0 lakh) and 2,120,400 over six years. The preparatory course is 266,500 roubles. The order is for students enrolled in the first course in 2026, and a separate register covers later courses, which we could not read.

Two agent pages quote 414,000 roubles for tuition and 50,000 for the hostel, but they are older and not official. Use the order, and ask the university to confirm in your contract that the price is fixed for six years.

What "translator service" means. The order does not say the programme is taught in English. A translator service may mean lectures given in Russian and interpreted, but the order does not explain it. The NMC rules need at least 54 months of study in English, so you must ask in writing what language each subject is taught in and whether the clinical years and internship are in English or in Russian. See the NMC rules. We found no official statement on English medium for all six years.

FMGE. NBEMS reports show 10 of 47 Ryazan graduates passing in 2022 (21.3%), 5 of 47 in 2023 (10.6%), 12 of 44 in 2024 (27.3%), 4 of 20 in June 2025 (20.0%) and 3 of 20 in December 2025 (15.0%). Together that is 34 of 178, or 19.1%, in 2022–2025, below the Russian average of about 25%. In four of the five sessions Ryazan was below the Russian average of that session; only June 2025 (20.0% against 18.1%) was above it. With fewer than 300 candidates in 2022–2025, too few for a fair rate, the university is outside our FMGE ranking. A high fee with a modest FMGE record is a combination to examine closely.

Racist attacks are rare, but practical steps help: ask who controls the hostel entrance, avoid walking alone late at night, carry copies of your passport and registration, and register with the Embassy of India in Moscow.
