MBBS in Tyumen, Russia: Universities, Cost of Living and Life for Indian Students

Tyumen is a city of 847,488 people in Western Siberia, 1,710 km from Moscow, and the home of Tyumen State Medical University. The university's page gave 318,000 roubles (about ₹3.6 lakh) as the 2024-25 first-year fee for foreign students, and it sells "English-language support" as a separate paid item, so the real question for an Indian family is whether the course is taught in English at all.

In short: Tyumen, Russia, has one medical university, Tyumen State Medical University (founded 1963). Its page gave 318,000 roubles (about ₹3.6 lakh) as first-year tuition for foreign students in 2024-25. The university sells "English-language support" as a separate item, so this is not confirmed as an English-medium course. Only 16 Tyumen graduates sat FMGE in 2022–2025 and 3 passed, too few to judge. The January mean is −15.1 °C, and Tyumen is 3.8 hours by air from Moscow.

Medical universities in Tyumen, Russia

Tyumen State Medical University is at Odesskaya St. 54. It was founded on 8 June 1963 as the Tyumen State Medical Institute, became an academy in 1995 and a university in 2015. It is a state university under the Ministry of Health. Indian searches such as "Tyumen State Medical University fees" and "Tyumen medical university" all point to it. The university says about 1,000 foreign students study there, but that counts every nationality, not Indian students.

Fee. The university's specialty page gave tuition in 2024-25 at 265,000 roubles a year for Russian citizens and 318,000 roubles for foreign students in General Medicine, about ₹3.6 lakh at the Central Bank of Russia rate of 15 October 2026. The orders for 2025-26 are listed on its paid-education page: order No. 272 of 14 April 2025 sets the cost of study for foreign citizens, and order No. 418 of 27 May 2025 sets the price of English-language support. We could not read the amounts, so we cannot say what a new student pays. One agent lists 429,000 roubles for the 2026 intake (about ₹4.9 lakh), with the hostel at 30,000 roubles a year and a six-year total of 2,754,000 roubles. Treat the agent numbers as unverified, and ask the international office for the tuition and the English-support price together, because they may be two lines on your contract.

Language. The university says foreign students "may study in English" and sells English-language support for foreigners from visa countries. Its admission rules describe study "with English-language support" and entrance tests that can partly be in English. That looks like English help on a mainly Russian course, not a confirmed English-medium General Medicine programme. The NMC rule needs at least 54 months in English, so ask for the number of hours in English for each year. See the NMC rules.

FMGE. NBEMS reports show 4 candidates in 2024 (1 passed), 4 in June 2025 (none passed) and 8 in December 2025 (2 passed): 16 in all and 3 passed, 18.8%. With so few, the result says almost nothing about teaching; it tells you the Indian cohort has been small until now. We did not find a WDOMS record for Tyumen, which is not proof of absence, so check it. See the FMGE pass rate page for universities with larger samples.

Tyumen weather for Kerala students

Tyumen is in Western Siberia, east of the Urals. Our figures (1991–2020 normals) give a January mean of −15.1 °C and a July mean of 18.7 °C. A mean hides the cold spells. The time zone is Moscow plus 2 hours, which is 0.5 hours behind India. Plan for a long winter: a down jacket for deep cold, insulated boots with grip, a hat and gloves, and thermal underwear. Ask senior students where they bought theirs and for how much.

Cost of living in Tyumen

We found no verified monthly cost for Tyumen. The hostel is an unverified agent figure of 30,000 roubles a year (about ₹34,000). Budget for the tuition and the English-support price (once you have both in writing), hostel, medical insurance, food, a phone plan, transport and winter clothes. Ask three senior students for their monthly spend. Keep a reserve of 10–20% for fee changes and the rouble–rupee rate (₹1.132 per rouble on 15 October 2026). Compare tuition with other cities on the fees page.

Indian students and food in Tyumen

We found no count of Indian students at the university and no verified source on Indian shops or restaurants in Tyumen. The FMGE rows suggest a small group of Indian graduates, so the community is probably small. That is an inference, not a number. Students cook in hostel kitchens and buy staples from supermarkets. Ask for the contact of a current Indian student before you commit and ask whether lectures are in English or Russian. See Indian food in Russia and student life for Malayalis.

Is Tyumen safe for Indian students?

Tyumen is in Western Siberia, far from the border regions of Bryansk, Belgorod and Kursk that the Indian Embassy's August 2024 advice named, and it is not in the North Caucasus. We know of no published incident involving Indian students in Tyumen. Everyday risks are ice and cold. Check mea.gov.in before each trip, register with the embassy after arrival and refuse any work offer connected with the military. See is MBBS in Russia safe.
