MBBS in Krasnoyarsk, Russia: Universities, Cost of Living and Life for Indian Students
Krasnoyarsk is a city of 1,187,771 people on the Yenisei in Eastern Siberia, 3,350 km from Moscow. Its Krasnoyarsk State Medical University publishes a fee table for foreigners that gives the first year of English-mediator General Medicine at 440,200 roubles (about ₹5.0 lakh), one of the higher official fees in Siberia. This page sets out the fee, the hostel, the language question, the winter and the route from Kerala.
In short: Krasnoyarsk, Russia, has one medical university in our list, Krasnoyarsk State Medical University (KrasSMU), founded in 1942. Its fee table for foreign citizens gives 440,200 roubles for the first year of General Medicine with an English mediator language, about ₹5.0 lakh, but the academic year is not labelled on the page we could read. The programme is taught in English with Russian for practical training, so English for all six years is not confirmed. The January mean is −15.6 °C, and NBEMS shows no FMGE results under the university's name.
Medical universities in Krasnoyarsk, Russia
Krasnoyarsk State Medical University, named after Prof. V.F. Voino-Yasenetsky, is at Partizana Zheleznyaka St. 1. It was founded on 21 November 1942 as the Krasnoyarsk State Medical Institute, became an academy in 1995 and a university in 2008. It is a state university under the Russian Ministry of Health. Indians search for it as "Krasnoyarsk State Medical University fees", "fee structure", "hostel" and "ranking", so each is answered below.
Krasnoyarsk State Medical University fees
The official fee table for foreign citizens marks the relevant rows "31.05.01 General Medicine, with the help of a mediator language (English)". We read it only through a search excerpt, and the page does not say which academic year it covers (2025-26 or 2026-27). It gives:
| Course | Roubles | About ₹ |
|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | 220,100 a semester, 440,200 a year | ₹5.0 lakh a year |
| Year 2 | 374,400 a year | ₹4.2 lakh a year |
| Year 3 | 357,500 a year (178,750 a semester) | ₹4.0 lakh a year |
| Years 4, 5, 6 | 178,750, 162,050 and 168,500 a semester | ₹2.0, 1.8 and 1.9 lakh a semester |
One consultancy lists 330,000 roubles a year (about ₹3.7 lakh), which conflicts with the official table; an agent copy of the university's table gives 440,200 for tuition and 24,000 for the hostel. For the price of your intake, ask the international office and get it in the contract. The fees-order archive for the university's website was not readable when we checked, so we could not tie the table to an order number.
Hostel and the preparatory department
The university's Preparatory Department page gives the hostel at 900–1,000 roubles a month (about ₹1,000–1,100) and says food and other living costs run to about 10,000 roubles a month (about ₹11,300). That page is for the language preparatory year, which costs 150,000 roubles for nine months (1 December to 31 August, about ₹1.7 lakh). The degree programme may differ, so ask whether the hostel rate is the same, which rooms you get, and whether the preparatory year applies to you. An agent lists the hostel at 24,000 roubles a year (about ₹27,000).
Language of instruction
The university's foreign-student site describes the six-year specialist programme as taught in English with Russian used for practical training, and says the entrance exams are in biology and chemistry. That means English is the instruction language but Russian is used for clinical work, which may not satisfy the NMC rule of 54 months in English. Ask what share of hours is in Russian, and in which years. See NMC rules.
Ranking, WDOMS and FMGE
We found no verified ranking for KrasSMU and could not confirm a WDOMS listing (a search found none, which is not proof of absence), so check it yourself. NBEMS FMGE reports for 2020–2025 have no rows under KrasSMU's name, so the university has no FMGE result to compare with the Russian average of about 25%. See the FMGE pass rate page for universities that do.

Krasnoyarsk weather for Kerala students
Krasnoyarsk's January mean is −15.6 °C and the July mean is 19.1 °C (1991–2020 normals). That is a little milder in January than Novosibirsk or Tomsk, but the real cold is in the spells below the mean, and the winter lasts from late autumn to spring. The time zone is Moscow plus 4 hours, 1.5 hours ahead of India.

Pack light for the flight and ask senior students where to buy the winter coat and boots after arrival. A student needs a down jacket, insulated boots, a hat, gloves and thermal underwear, and then rotates the layers by the day. The winter packing list has the budget and checklist.
How to reach Krasnoyarsk from Kerala
Krasnoyarsk International Airport at Yemelyanovo (KJA) is operating. There is no direct flight from Kerala to Russia, so you fly from Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram or Kozhikode to Moscow through a Gulf hub or Delhi and then fly about 4.3 hours to Krasnoyarsk. The train from Moscow takes about 48–58 hours (sources differ). The city is 3,350 km from Moscow in a straight line, the farthest of the cities in our Siberian set, so flights are the only practical option. We have not checked the airport-to-city transfer; ask the university who meets the first-year group.
Documents and visa steps are in the admission process and NORKA attestation pages.
Cost of living in Krasnoyarsk
The only official figure we found is the Preparatory Department's estimate of about 10,000 roubles a month for food and other living costs, plus a hostel at 900–1,000 roubles a month. It refers to the preparatory year and may be out of date, so use it as a starting point, not a budget. Add medical insurance, a phone plan, transport and winter clothing. Ask three senior students for their real monthly spend. Compare tuition with other cities on the fees page, and keep a reserve of 10–20% for increases and the rouble–rupee rate (₹1.132 per rouble on 15 October 2026).
Indian students and food in Krasnoyarsk
We found no count of Indian students at KrasSMU and no verified source on Indian shops or restaurants in Krasnoyarsk. With more than a million people, the city has large supermarkets and markets, but ask current students where they buy rice, lentils and spices. Most students cook in hostel kitchens. Because the clinical training uses Russian, plan to learn Russian from the first year. Ask KrasSMU or us for contacts of Kerala students on the course. See Indian food in Russia.
Is Krasnoyarsk safe for Indian students?
Krasnoyarsk is deep in Siberia, about 3,350 km from Moscow, and far from the border regions of Bryansk, Belgorod and Kursk that the Indian Embassy's August 2024 advice named. It is not in the North Caucasus. We know of no published incident involving Indian students there. The daily risks are ice and cold. Check mea.gov.in before each trip, register with the embassy after arrival, and refuse any work offer connected with the military. See is MBBS in Russia safe.
