Krasnoyarsk State Medical University: MBBS Fees, Hostel, NEET Cut-Off and Admission for Indian Students

Krasnoyarsk State Medical University (KrasSMU) in Siberia lists 440,200 roubles a year (about ₹5.0 lakh) for General Medicine taught with English as a mediator language. We found no FMGE results under its name, English is combined with Russian in practical training, and the winter is severe, so read the details before you apply.

In short: Krasnoyarsk State Medical University (KrasSMU) is a state medical university founded in 1942 in Krasnoyarsk, a Siberian city about 3,350 km from Moscow. Its fee table for foreign citizens gives 440,200 roubles for the first year of General Medicine with English as a mediator language, about ₹5.0 lakh. We found no FMGE results under its name, so no pass rate can be given. Teaching is in English "with Russian used for practical training", which does not confirm full English for the NMC.

Krasnoyarsk State Medical University named after Professor V.F. Voino-Yasenetsky, known as KrasSMU or KrasGMU, is a federal state budgetary institution under the Russian Ministry of Health, so it is a public university. It was founded on 21 November 1942 as the Krasnoyarsk State Medical Institute, became an academy in 1995 and a university in 2008. The address on record is Partizana Zheleznyaka street 1, Krasnoyarsk 660022. Searches for Krasnoyarsk Medical University, Krasnoyarsk State Medical University Russia or KrasSMU lead to the same institution.

The university runs a separate English-language site for foreign students, foreign.krasgmu.ru, with its own preparatory department for applicants who need to start with the language. We found no official count of Indian students and none for Kerala, and we did not find the university in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) when we searched. That does not mean it is absent, only that we could not confirm it: check the WDOMS entry yourself before you pay anything.

Krasnoyarsk State Medical University fees for Indian students

KrasSMU publishes a fee table for foreign citizens in roubles. Its rows for specialty 31.05.01 General Medicine are marked "with help of a mediator language (English)", which is the row for an Indian student in an English group. For the first year the table gives 220,100 roubles per semester, which is 440,200 roubles a year, about ₹5.0 lakh at today's rate. The page does not label the academic year in the part we could read, so it is either 2025-26 or 2026-27; ask for the current one. The same table has other rows without the English marker at different prices, for example 212,100 roubles per semester, so make sure the contract names the English-mediator line.

Two other figures circulate. One agent page shows the same 440,200 roubles with a hostel of 24,000 roubles a year. Another consultancy lists 330,000 roubles, which conflicts with the university's table; do not rely on it.

Krasnoyarsk State Medical University fee structure 2025-26 and 2026-27

Six years at today's fee (fees usually rise each year)INR
Tuition, 6 years₹29.9 lakh
Hostel, 6 years₹0.8 lakh
Tuition and hostel, 6 years₹30.7 lakh
Converted at the Central Bank of Russia rate of 2026-10-15. Food, insurance, visa and flights are extra; see the fees page.

The table above multiplies the first-year fee by six: about ₹30 lakh in tuition if the fee never rose. The university's table also lists lower prices for later courses, for example 374,400 roubles for the second course and 357,500 roubles for the third, but these are the prices for students already enrolled at their own intake's fees. They do not show what a student admitted now will pay, so do not add them up. Plan with a reserve of 10–20% for increases and for the rouble-rupee rate, and ask whether the fee in your contract is fixed or indexed each year.

The hostel row in the table uses the monthly figure from the preparatory-department page (see below), not from the degree page. Treat it as a guide.

Cost itemWhat we know for KrasSMU
Tuition, first year (English mediator)440,200 RUB (220,100 per semester; university fee table)
Preparatory department150,000 RUB for 9 months (1 December to 31 August), if language preparation is needed
Hostel900–1,000 RUB a month (preparatory department page); an agent says 24,000 RUB a year
Food and other living costsAbout 10,000 RUB a month, according to the same official page
Medical insuranceCompulsory for foreign students; ask what it covers
FlightsKerala to Moscow via a Gulf hub or Delhi, then about 4.3 hours by air to Krasnoyarsk

Compare KrasSMU with other universities on the MBBS in Russia fees page. At about ₹5.0 lakh it is in the middle of our list, a little below Smolensk (₹5.2 lakh, an agent figure) and Privolzhsky (₹5.3 lakh), as the table below shows.

Living cost in Krasnoyarsk

The university's own page puts food and other living costs at about 10,000 roubles a month, roughly ₹11,300 at today's rate. That figure comes from the preparatory-department page and is a rough guide, not a budget. Add a mobile plan, local transport, study material and, in the first year, a full set of winter clothing. Ask senior Indian students for their actual spend before you fix the family budget.

Krasnoyarsk State Medical University hostel and hostel fees

The official foreign-student site gives the hostel at 900–1,000 roubles a month on its preparatory-department page, about ₹1,000–1,100, or about 12,000 roubles a year. That page is for the preparatory course, not for the six-year degree, so confirm that the same rate applies to degree students. An agent lists 24,000 roubles a year. The difference shows why you should ask the international office, in writing, for the current monthly rate, the number of students per room, the kitchen and whether a place is kept for all six years.

Families also ask about a girls hostel at Krasnoyarsk State Medical University. Russian residences usually allocate rooms or floors by gender, but the rules differ from building to building. Ask how female students are placed, who controls the entrance and what the rules are after dark. Ask also how far the hostel is from the teaching hospitals, because that walk is made in winter.

NEET cut-off and eligibility for KrasSMU

The university does not publish a NEET cut-off above the national qualifying score in the sources we found. What you need is the NEET-UG qualifying score for your category, because without it an Indian graduate cannot practise in India:

  • NEET-UG: qualified, result valid for three years. In NEET-UG 2026 the qualifying score was 213 out of 720 for general and EWS, 194 for general PwBD and 177 for SC, ST and OBC (the 3 May exam was cancelled after a paper leak and re-held on 21 June 2026; the result came on 16 July 2026). In 2025 it was 144, 127 and 113.
  • Class 12: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, with at least 50% in PCB (40% for reserved categories).
  • Age: 17 by 31 December of the admission year.

The foreign-student site lists entrance exams in biology and chemistry for General Medicine. We have no published acceptance rate and no information on how the exam is held for Indian applicants (online, interview or in person). Ask for the syllabus and the date. The full eligibility and documents list is on our admission page.

Admission process at Krasnoyarsk State Medical University

  1. Apply

Send scans of your passport, Class 10 and 12 mark sheets and NEET score card to the foreign-student office, directly or through us.

  2. Entrance test and contract

Take the biology and chemistry test in the format the university sets, then read the contract: the fee line, the language of instruction in each year, the internship and the refund terms.

  3. Invitation and visa

The university requests your study invitation from the Russian migration authorities. With it you apply for the student visa; the nearest Russian consulate to Kerala is in Chennai.

  4. Travel to Krasnoyarsk

Fly to Moscow through a Gulf hub or Delhi, then fly on to Krasnoyarsk. The university completes your migration registration after arrival.

Apply soon after NEET results, because the invitation and visa take several weeks. The general admission process page explains documents, apostille through NORKA Roots and the visa in detail.

Krasnoyarsk State Medical University ranking and recognition

Families search for the Krasnoyarsk State Medical University ranking. We found no global ranking for it and no national rating we could verify, so we quote none, and our own FMGE-based ranking has no entry for it because no FMGE result was found. Three things matter more than a ranking:

  • NMC rules. The degree is valid in India only if the course meets the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021: at least 54 months of study in English, a 12-month internship at the same university, in-person clinical training and eligibility for a licence to practise in Russia. The NMC keeps no list of approved universities, so ask for written confirmation of each point. See NMC rules.
  • World Directory of Medical Schools. We could not confirm a WDOMS listing. Search the directory yourself and ask the university for its WDOMS number.
  • FMGE results, next.

On English medium, the foreign-student site says the six-year programme is "taught in English with Russian used for practical training". The fee table's own wording is "with help of a mediator language (English)". Both mean that English is the language of instruction and Russian enters at the hospital. The NMC wants the whole course in English, so ask the university for a written statement of how many hours of practical training are in Russian and how an Indian student is expected to manage them.

Krasnoyarsk State Medical University FMGE passing percentage

NBEMS publishes FMGE results by institute, and we searched its reports for 2020 to 2025. No row matched a recognisable Krasnoyarsk name, so we have no pass rate. It may be that few or no Indian graduates have sat the exam under this name, or that the institute is entered under another spelling. We will not guess. For comparison, the Russian average was 26.0% in 2022, 19.4% in 2023, 29.5% in 2024, 18.1% in June 2025 and 30.9% in December 2025, about 25% over 2022–2025.

Ask the university for the number of its Indian graduates who sat FMGE and passed in the last three years, with NBEMS score cards. The older "MCI passing ratio" means the same thing: FMGE was run for the Medical Council of India before the NMC replaced it. Universities with published results are on the FMGE pass rate page and in the ranking.

Safety in Krasnoyarsk for Indian students

Krasnoyarsk is in Eastern Siberia, about 3,350 km from Moscow, far from the Ukrainian border and from the North Caucasus. The Indian Embassy in Moscow advised in August 2024 that Indians in the Bryansk, Belgorod and Kursk regions take precautions and relocate temporarily; Krasnoyarsk is not named. We found no published incident involving KrasSMU students. Advisories can change, so check mea.gov.in before you travel. The practical risks are different here:

  • Cold. The January mean is about −15.6 °C, and Siberian cities can have frosts of −30 °C and below. Do not leave winter clothing for later.
  • Distance. A family emergency means a flight of more than four hours from Moscow after the Gulf or Delhi leg. Keep passport and visa copies with your parents and know the Embassy numbers.
  • Residence security. Ask what entry control and night duty the hostel has.
  • Insurance. Check that it covers emergency treatment and return to India.
  • Never accept a job or "contract" offer that involves the Russian military.

Life in Krasnoyarsk for Kerala students

Krasnoyarsk is one of the larger cities in Siberia, with 1,187,771 people at the 2021 census. The climate is continental: the January mean is about −15.6 °C and the July mean about 19.1 °C. The first winter is the hard part for a student from Kerala; budget for a proper down jacket, insulated boots, gloves, hat and thermal wear before the first term.

Illustration: Siberian winters are long; budget for proper winter clothing in the first year.

We have no verified information on Indian groceries, Indian restaurants or a Malayali community in Krasnoyarsk, so we do not describe them. Plan to cook in the hostel kitchen and to bring spices and specific ingredients from home. Ask for the contact of a current Indian student, ideally from Kerala, before you pay. Krasnoyarsk is on Moscow time plus four hours, so it is 1.5 hours ahead of India: evening calls home are easy.

Krasnoyarsk: 3350 km from Moscow in a straight line; local time is 1.5 h ahead of India.

The university is in Krasnoyarsk, on Partizana Zheleznyaka street. The distance from Krasnoyarsk to Moscow is about 3,350 km in a straight line: about 4.3 hours by air, or 48–58 hours by train (sources differ). The nearest airport is Krasnoyarsk International Airport, Yemelyanovo (KJA), and it is operating.

From Kerala there is no direct flight to Russia. The usual route is Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram or Kozhikode to Moscow through Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Doha or Delhi, then the flight to Krasnoyarsk. Total travel is long, so book ahead and keep documents in hand baggage. See the universities page for the map of all cities.

Scholarships, syllabus and courses

We found no KrasSMU scholarship that reduces tuition for Indian students. The Russian government offers a limited number of state-funded places to foreign citizens each year through its quota programme, applied for on the official education-in-russia.com portal; competition is high and places in medicine are few. Indian families should plan to pay the full fee.

The General Medicine syllabus follows the Russian federal standard for specialty 31.05.01. We did not find the KrasSMU curriculum online. A typical six-year plan looks like this; ask the university for its own before you sign:

YearsMain subjects
1–2Anatomy, histology, physiology, biochemistry, biology, Latin, Russian language
3Pathology, pharmacology, microbiology, propaedeutics of internal diseases, general surgery
4–5Internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, pediatrics, neurology, infectious diseases, psychiatry
6Clinical rotations in hospitals and the state final examinations

Basic sciences come first, then clinical subjects, then hospital practice. Because KrasSMU uses Russian for practical training, learning the language early matters more here than at a university that states full English. The only programme we can confirm for this page is General Medicine.

KrasSMU compared with similar universities

Families shortlisting KrasSMU usually compare it with other universities at a similar fee. The table uses first-year tuition and the combined FMGE pass rate for 2022–2025 from the NBEMS reports.

UniversityCityTuition per yearFMGE 2022–2025
Krasnoyarsk State Medical UniversityKrasnoyarsk₹5.0 lakhno result found
Mari State UniversityYoshkar-Ola₹4.8 lakh (agent figure)28.2%
Smolensk State Medical UniversitySmolensk₹5.2 lakh (agent figure)35.4%
Privolzhsky Research Medical UniversityNizhny Novgorod₹5.3 lakh36.9%
Fees at the Central Bank of Russia rate of 15 October 2026. Privolzhsky's admission page does not label the academic year; confirm current fees with each university.

At a similar fee, the three universities in the table have all had FMGE results above the Russian average of about 25%, and Krasnoyarsk has none that we can show. If the FMGE record is the deciding factor for you, those three are easier to judge. KrasSMU's case rests on a published fee table and a large city with a working international airport. See the full ranking by FMGE results.

After graduation: FMGE, internship and registration in Kerala

KrasSMU awards the Russian specialist diploma in General Medicine after six years. To practise in India, a graduate then needs to:

  1. Pass FMGE, held by NBEMS three times a year since 2026 (the NMC plans to replace it with NExT, with no date yet).
  2. Complete a 12-month supervised internship in India, as the NMC requires for foreign graduates.
  3. Register with the Travancore-Cochin Medical Council to practise in Kerala.

After registration, graduates can take NEET-PG for postgraduate seats in India like any other doctor. Practising in Russia needs Russian accreditation and fluent Russian. Plan for a year or more between the diploma and the first salary in India. With no FMGE record for KrasSMU, assume the exam is the usual hurdle, about three in four Russian-trained candidates not passing at a sitting, and prepare from the first year.
