Kemerovo State Medical University: MBBS Fees, Hostel, NEET Cut-Off and Admission for Indian Students

Kemerovo State Medical University (KemSMU) is a state medical university in Siberia, founded in 1955. The university's page gives a tuition figure of 335,000 roubles (about ₹3.8 lakh), and we ask you to confirm whether this is per year. Below are its fee in rupees, its FMGE results year by year, the hostel, the NEET requirement and the Siberian winter.

In short: KemSMU is a state medical university founded in 1955 in Kemerovo, in Siberia. The university's page gives 335,000 roubles (about ₹3.8 lakh) for tuition; confirm whether this is per year. In the four FMGE sessions of 2023–2025 its graduates passed at a combined 32.8%, but on only 201 candidates, against a Russian average of about 25%. The university says the programme is implemented in English, but we found no statement that all six years, including clinical training, are in English, so ask for it in writing.

Kemerovo State Medical University is a federal state budgetary institution of higher education under the Ministry of Health of Russia, so it is a public university, not a private college. It was founded in 1955 as the Kemerovo State Medical Institute, became the Kemerovo State Medical Academy in 1995 and a university in 2016. The address is Voroshilova Street 22a, Kemerovo, 650056. Its official website is kemgmu.ru, and the pages for foreign applicants are at kemgmu.ru/information-for-foreign-applicants-and-students/.

For foreigners the university offers a six-year General Medicine programme. Its foreign-applicants pages say that the educational programme is implemented in English. We did not find the number of Indian students at the university. One agent website quotes "300–700" Indian students without a source, so we do not rely on it. Ask the international office, whose e-mail is printed on the official page as [email protected], how many Indian students and how many students from Kerala are studying there now.

Kemerovo State Medical University is not Kemerovo State University

Many people type "Kemerovo State University" or just "Kemerovo University" when they mean the medical university. These are two different institutions in the same city. Kemerovo State Medical University (KemSMU, kemgmu.ru) is the medical university described on this page. Kemerovo State University is a separate university, and agent lists give it a different fee. Before you pay anything, check that the admission letter and the contract carry the name Kemerovo State Medical University, and that the web address in the documents is the university's own.

The official page also warns applicants about intermediaries who give false fee information. That is a fair warning for any country, and we take it seriously: whatever fee you read on this page or on an agent's website, get the amount confirmed by the university in writing.

Kemerovo State Medical University fees for Indian students

The tuition of Kemerovo State Medical University is set in roubles. The university's foreign-applicants page, in the excerpt we could read, speaks of 85,000 roubles that must be paid by 21 August 2026 and gives the total cost as 335,000 roubles. It does not say "per year" in so many words. Two agent sources, Careers360 and rmcedu, both give 335,000 roubles as the year-one tuition, so an annual fee is the likely reading. But the university's page gives 335,000 roubles and we ask you to confirm whether this is per year and what the 85,000-rouble payment is (a first instalment or something else) before you plan a six-year budget.

Tuition, 6 years₹22.8 lakh

If 335,000 roubles is the yearly tuition, the KemSMU fee structure for 2026-27 works out to roughly ₹3.8 lakh a year at today's exchange rate, or about ₹23 lakh over six years if the fee never rose. If it turns out to be a total for the whole course or for part of it, the arithmetic changes completely, which is why the question matters. Russian universities usually raise fees from time to time, so keep a reserve of 10–20% for increases and for the rouble-rupee rate. Ask whether tuition is paid per year or per semester and to which bank account.

FlightsKerala to Moscow via a Gulf hub or Delhi, then a long domestic flight to Siberia

Compare KemSMU with other universities on the MBBS in Russia fees page. On the fees we have checked it is at the same level as Voronezh and below Tver and Northern State Medical University. A low fee is not the same as a low total cost, because Kemerovo is far from Moscow and the flight is a large part of the budget. Families from Kerala also compare this fee with what a Kerala college would cost on their NEET rank; ask us for both numbers side by side before you decide.

Living cost in Kemerovo

Beyond tuition and hostel, a student's monthly budget in Kemerovo is made of food (mostly cooked in the hostel kitchen), a mobile plan and internet, local transport and study material. In Siberia the first year also needs a full set of winter clothing: a proper coat, boots, gloves, a hat and thermal wear. We have no verified monthly figure for Kemerovo and will not invent one. Ask senior Indian students at the university for their real monthly spend before you fix the family budget.

Hostel and hostel fees

Foreign students at Russian state universities usually live in student residences in shared rooms with common kitchens. The KemSMU hostel fee is not given on the official page we could read, and the agent figures disagree: Careers360 gives about 60,000 roubles a year (about ₹0.7 lakh), rmcedu gives 90,000 roubles a year (about ₹1.0 lakh), and another agent site gives USD 600–1,000 a year. Do not treat any of them as a price: ask the international office for the hostel fee in writing, together with the tuition.

Families often ask about the girls hostel at Kemerovo State Medical University and its fees. We have no verified information on how rooms are allocated. Ask the international office whether female students are placed together on separate floors or in separate rooms, what security there is at the entrance, how far the hostel is from the teaching buildings, and whether the room has heating that works in winter. In Siberia the last point is not a detail.

NEET cut-off and eligibility

KemSMU does not publish a NEET cut-off of its own that we could find. What you need is the NEET-UG qualifying score for your category, because without it an Indian graduate cannot practise in India:

  • NEET-UG: qualified, result valid for three years. In NEET-UG 2026 the qualifying score was 213 out of 720 for general and EWS, 194 for general PwBD and 177 for SC, ST and OBC (the 3 May exam was cancelled after a paper leak and re-held on 21 June 2026; the result came on 16 July 2026). In 2025 it was 144, 127 and 113.
  • Class 12: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, with at least 50% in PCB (40% for reserved categories).
  • Age: 17 by 31 December of the admission year.

We found no published entrance exam or acceptance rate for foreign applicants at KemSMU. Ask whether there is an entrance test or interview and what it covers. Students who meet the eligibility criteria and apply on time are usually admitted at Russian state universities, but the real filter is FMGE six years later, so a student with a weak NEET score should think hard about the exam ahead. See the full eligibility and documents list.

Admission process at Kemerovo State Medical University

  1. Apply online

Send scans of your passport, Class 10 and 12 mark sheets and NEET score card to the university's international office, directly or through us.

  2. Admission letter and contract

The university checks the documents and issues an admission letter. Read the contract for the fee, its period, the language of instruction and the internship.

  3. Invitation and visa

The university arranges your study invitation. With it you apply for the student visa; the nearest Russian consulate to Kerala is in Chennai.

  4. Travel to Kemerovo

Fly to Moscow through a Gulf hub or Delhi, then on to Siberia. Ask the international office how it meets new students on arrival and who completes the migration registration.

The 21 August 2026 payment deadline on the official page suggests that the new academic year starts in early autumn, but confirm the intake date in writing. Apply soon after NEET results, because the invitation and visa take several weeks. The general admission process page explains documents, apostille through NORKA Roots and the visa in detail.

Ranking and recognition

Families often search for the Kemerovo State Medical University ranking and its world ranking. We found no ranking for KemSMU, and we have not found it in the main global university rankings. Russian national ratings change their methods often, and rankings say little about what matters for an Indian student. Three things matter more:

  • NMC rules. The degree is valid in India only if the course meets the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021: at least 54 months of study in English, a 12-month internship at the same university, and eligibility for a licence to practise in Russia. The NMC keeps no list of approved universities, so ask KemSMU for written confirmation of each point. See NMC rules.
  • World Directory of Medical Schools. We could not confirm the listing of the university in WDOMS. Check it yourself; an Indian graduate needs a degree from a recognised medical school.
  • FMGE results, below, which show how its Indian graduates actually do.

The official website of the university is kemgmu.ru. Use it, and not an agent's microsite, as the final word on fees and dates.

FMGE passing percentage of Kemerovo State Medical University

NBEMS publishes FMGE results for every foreign university. The numbers for KemSMU are small. We have no result for 2022. In 2023, 9 of 22 candidates passed (40.9%) against a Russian average of 19.4%. In 2024, 28 of 75 passed (37.3%) against 29.5%. In June 2025, 9 of 39 passed (23.1%) against 18.1%. In December 2025, 20 of 65 passed (30.8%) against 30.9%, which is level with the average. Over these four sessions 66 of 201 candidates passed, a combined 32.8%, while the Russian average for 2022–2025 is about 25%.

SessionAppearedPassedPass rate
December 2025652030.8%
June 202539923.1%
2024752837.3%
202322940.9%
Source: NBEMS FMGE reports. Annual figures combine both sessions.

Read these figures with care. KemSMU had fewer than 300 candidates in 2022–2025, so it is not ranked in our ranking, and a sample of 22 to 75 candidates a year moves a lot with a few people. The numbers show that its graduates beat the Russian average in three sessions and matched it in the fourth; they do not show that the next batch will. The older "MCI passing ratio" is the same thing: FMGE was run for the Medical Council of India before the NMC replaced it. Compare KemSMU with every other university on the FMGE pass rate page.

Safety in Kemerovo for Indian students

Kemerovo is in Siberia, almost 3,000 km from Moscow, far from the border regions of European Russia, and not in the North Caucasus. We know of no published incident involving Indian students at KemSMU. Practical safety here is mostly about the climate and about the usual care of a student living abroad, and a few points are worth asking about:

  • Ask what security the residence has: guards, entry control, cameras.
  • Keep the Indian Embassy in Moscow in your phone and register with it after arrival.
  • Check the current advisory at mea.gov.in before travel; Russia-related advisories change.
  • Never accept a job or "contract" offer that involves the Russian military.
  • Learn what the real winter risks are: frostbite, icy pavements and overheated rooms. Dress for the cold from the first week.

Life in Kemerovo for Kerala students

Kemerovo is a city in the Siberian part of Russia. The main question for a student from Kerala is the cold: frosts of −30 to −40 °C are normal winter weather in Siberia. Buy proper winter clothing for the first year, keep to a routine in the cold months and ask senior students when and where to buy a coat so that you do not overpay on the first day.

We have no verified information on how many students from Kerala study at KemSMU or on Indian food in the city. Ask the international office to connect you with current Indian students, and ask them: is there a Malayali group, do students cook in the hostel kitchen, where do they buy spices and rice, how do they manage the first winter. Our counsellors speak Malayalam and can arrange this call for you from the Kakkanad office.

Kemerovo: 2990 km from Moscow in a straight line; local time is 1.5 h ahead of India.

Kemerovo State Medical University is in Kemerovo, a city in Siberia. The distance from Kemerovo to Moscow is about 2,990 km in a straight line, so the domestic leg is a long flight across several time zones. We do not have a verified name of the nearest airport and a transfer plan from the university, so ask the international office which airport it meets students at before you book.

From Kerala there is no direct flight to Russia. The usual route is Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram or Kozhikode to Moscow through Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Doha or Delhi, then a domestic flight to Siberia. Aeroflot flies Delhi–Moscow nonstop about daily. Kemerovo time is four hours ahead of Moscow and one and a half hours ahead of India, so phone calls home are easy in the evening. Read more on the universities page and the map of all cities.

Scholarships, syllabus and courses

We found no KemSMU scholarship that cuts tuition for Indian students as a rule. The Russian government offers a limited number of state-funded places to foreign citizens each year through its quota programme, applied for on the official education-in-russia.com portal; competition is high and places in medicine are few. Indian families should plan to pay the full fee.

The General Medicine syllabus follows the Russian federal standard. A typical six-year plan looks like this; ask KemSMU for its own curriculum before you sign:

YearsMain subjects
1–2Anatomy, histology, physiology, biochemistry, biology, Latin, Russian language
3Pathology, pharmacology, microbiology, propaedeutics of internal diseases, general surgery
4–5Internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, pediatrics, neurology, infectious diseases, psychiatry
6Clinical rotations in hospitals and the state final examinations

The first years cover the basic sciences, then clinical subjects follow, with hospital practice in the senior years. Clinical training means talking to Russian-speaking patients, and the university does not say whether Russian is used in KemSMU's clinical years; one agent says English with Russian for clinical training. Students who learn basic Russian in the first two years cope much better. The course we describe here is General Medicine; we have not verified other programmes for foreigners.

KemSMU compared with similar universities

Families shortlisting KemSMU usually compare it with universities at a similar fee. The table uses the yearly tuition in rupees and the combined FMGE pass rate from the NBEMS reports. KemSMU has no 2022 result, so its figure covers 2023–2025 only.

UniversityCityTuition per yearFMGE
Kemerovo State Medical UniversityKemerovo₹3.8 lakh (confirm if per year)32.8% (2023–2025, 201 candidates)
Voronezh State Medical UniversityVoronezh₹4.9 lakh (2026/27 order, English elements)19.1% (2022–2025)
Tver State Medical UniversityTver₹4.9 lakh (2026/27 order)17.2% (2022–2025)
Northern State Medical UniversityArkhangelsk₹4.0 lakh22.5% (2022–2025)
Fees at the Central Bank of Russia rate of 15 October 2026. Confirm current fees with each university. The KemSMU percentage covers fewer years and far fewer candidates than the others.

At a fee at or below the others, KemSMU has the highest FMGE figure in this table, but on a small number of candidates and a shorter period, so the comparison is only a first look. KemSMU's costs are its distance from Moscow and its Siberian winters, and the open questions on English and on whether the fee is yearly. See the full ranking by FMGE results.

After graduation: FMGE, internship and registration in Kerala

KemSMU awards the Russian specialist diploma in General Medicine after six years. To practise in India, a graduate then needs to:

  1. Pass FMGE, held by NBEMS three times a year since 2026 (the NMC plans to replace it with NExT, with no date yet).
  2. Complete a 12-month supervised internship in India, as the NMC requires for foreign graduates.
  3. Register with the Travancore-Cochin Medical Council to practise in Kerala.

After registration, graduates can take NEET-PG for postgraduate seats in India like any other doctor. Practising in Russia is also possible but needs Russian accreditation and fluent Russian. Plan for a year or more between the diploma and the first salary in India.

Pros and cons for a student from Kerala

Hostel, food, insurance and flights are extra.

What are the hostel facilities and hostel fees at Kemerovo State Medical University?

Foreign students usually live in the university's residences in shared rooms with common kitchens. The official foreign-applicants pages say the educational programme is implemented in English, but we found no statement that all six years, including clinical training, are in English. The NMC requires the whole course in English, at least 54 months of study and a 12-month internship at the same university. Ask the university for written confirmation of each condition.

Are there students from Kerala at Kemerovo State Medical University, and is Indian food available in Kemerovo?

We have no verified count of Indian students or of students from Kerala at the university, and no verified information on Indian food in the city. Most students cook in the hostel kitchen.
