Novosibirsk State Medical University: MBBS Fees, Hostel, NEET Cut-Off and Admission for Indian Students

Novosibirsk State Medical University (NSMU) is a state medical university founded in 1935 in Novosibirsk. The only fee we found is an agent figure of 650,000 roubles a year (about ₹7.4 lakh), which the same agent contradicts elsewhere. We could not confirm an English-medium programme for foreigners or any FMGE result, so this page also tells you what to ask before you pay.

In short: Novosibirsk State Medical University (NSMU) is a state university under the Ministry of Health, founded on 17 August 1935 in Novosibirsk. The only tuition figure we found is from one agent: 650,000 roubles a year (about ₹7.4 lakh), and the same agent's FAQ gives $25,000–30,000 for six years, so we treat it as unreliable. We could not confirm an official English-medium General Medicine programme for foreigners, and no FMGE result appears under its name. Do not pay anything until the university confirms English teaching, the fee and the NMC conditions in writing.

Novosibirsk State Medical University (NSMU, in Russian НГМУ) is a federal state budgetary institution under the Russian Ministry of Health, so it is a public university. Wikipedia gives its founding date as 17 August 1935. It was the Novosibirsk Medical Institute, which received the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, until 1999, then the Novosibirsk State Medical Academy until 2005. The address on record is Krasny Prospekt 52, Novosibirsk 630091, and its English-language site is en.ngmu.ru. Searches for Novosibirsk Medical University lead to the same institution.

The honest summary of what we know is short. We know that it is a long-established state medical school in the largest city east of the Urals. We do not have an official page that says it admits foreigners to a six-year English-medium General Medicine course, and we found no count of Indian students or of students from Kerala. The official Russian sites were not reachable from our side and our search ended before we could read NSMU's own pages, so this page leans on the little we could confirm and shows you how to check the rest.

Novosibirsk State Medical University fees for Indian students

We found one source for the NSMU fee: a 2026 fee table on an agent's website (rmcedu.com) that lists 650,000 roubles a year for each of the six years, about ₹7.4 lakh a year at today's rate and about ₹44 lakh over six years, with a hostel of 18,000 roubles a year. The same agent page contradicts itself: its FAQ gives a total of $25,000–30,000 for six years, which at today's rate is about ₹24–29 lakh, or roughly ₹4–5 lakh a year. The two statements cannot both be right, and neither comes from the university. We found no NSMU price list or order for foreign students.

What would an official figure look like? Russian universities publish a price order for each intake that lists General Medicine separately for Russian citizens, for foreigners in Russian and for foreigners with an English or other mediator language. Ask NSMU for that page, with the order number and date.

Tuition, 6 years (agent figure)₹44.1 lakh
Converted at the Central Bank of Russia rate of 2026-10-15. Food, insurance, visa and flights are extra; see the fees page.

The table above shows the agent figure of 650,000 roubles, multiplied by six. It is among the higher fees in our list and looks out of line with other Russian medical universities in the same price band, which is why we flag it. Until NSMU gives you an order, plan on a range rather than a number: the agent's own two statements span about ₹4 lakh to ₹7.4 lakh a year. Keep a reserve of 10–20% for increases and for the rouble-rupee rate, and ask whether the fee in your contract is fixed for the whole course.

Living cost in Novosibirsk

Beyond tuition and hostel, a monthly budget in Novosibirsk is made of food, a mobile plan and internet, the metro and local transport, study material and winter clothing in the first year. The city has about 1.6 million people. We have no verified monthly figure for it, so we do not give one. Ask senior Indian students for their real monthly spend before you fix the family budget; if no Indian student can be named by the university, treat that as part of your answer.

Novosibirsk State Medical University hostel and hostel fees

The only hostel figure we have is the agent's 18,000 roubles a year, about ₹20,000. We found no official hostel page for foreign students. Ask the international office, in writing, for the monthly or yearly rate, the room type, the number of students per room, the kitchen, the distance to the lecture halls and the clinical bases, and whether a place is kept for all six years or must be applied for every year.

Families also ask about a girls hostel at Novosibirsk State Medical University. Russian residences usually allocate rooms or floors by gender, but the rules differ. Ask how female students are placed, who controls the entrance and what the rules are after dark.

NEET cut-off and eligibility for NSMU

NSMU does not publish a NEET cut-off above the national qualifying score in the sources we found. What you need is the NEET-UG qualifying score for your category, because without it an Indian graduate cannot practise in India:

  • NEET-UG: qualified, result valid for three years. In NEET-UG 2026 the qualifying score was 213 out of 720 for general and EWS, 194 for general PwBD and 177 for SC, ST and OBC (the 3 May exam was cancelled after a paper leak and re-held on 21 June 2026; the result came on 16 July 2026). In 2025 it was 144, 127 and 113.
  • Class 12: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, with at least 50% in PCB (40% for reserved categories).
  • Age: 17 by 31 December of the admission year.

We have not confirmed whether NSMU holds an entrance exam or interview for foreign applicants, and there is no published acceptance rate. Ask for the list of requirements and the deadline for your intake. The full eligibility and documents list is on our admission page.

What to confirm before you apply to NSMU

Because the public information is thin, a parent should treat the first contact with the university as an audit. Ask these questions by email, and keep the answers:

  1. Does NSMU admit foreign citizens to General Medicine 31.05.01 in English? Ask for the page of the official site or the licence annex that says so.
  2. In which language is each year taught, including clinical practice in hospitals? The NMC needs at least 54 months of study in English.
  3. What is the fee for my group in my intake year, with the number and date of the price order?
  4. How many Indian students are enrolled now, and can I speak to a Malayali student?
  5. What is the hostel fee and room plan?
  6. Is NSMU listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, and what is the WDOMS number?
  7. How many Indian graduates have sat FMGE, and how many passed, with NBEMS score cards?

If the university cannot answer the first, second and third questions in writing, do not pay. An agent's brochure is not an answer.

Admission process at Novosibirsk State Medical University

  1. Confirm the programme

Get written confirmation of the English-medium programme, the fee line and the NMC points above, before any payment.

  2. Apply

Send scans of your passport, Class 10 and 12 mark sheets and NEET score card to the international office, directly or through us.

  3. Invitation and visa

The university requests your study invitation from the Russian migration authorities. With it you apply for the student visa; the nearest Russian consulate to Kerala is in Chennai.

  4. Travel to Novosibirsk

Fly to Moscow through a Gulf hub or Delhi, then on to Novosibirsk. The university completes your migration registration after arrival.

Apply soon after NEET results, because the invitation and visa take several weeks. The general admission process page explains documents, apostille through NORKA Roots and the visa in detail.

Novosibirsk State Medical University ranking and recognition

Families search for the Novosibirsk State Medical University ranking. We found no global ranking for it and no national rating we could verify, so we quote none, and our own FMGE-based ranking has no entry for it because no FMGE result was found. Three things matter more than a ranking:

  • NMC rules. The degree is valid in India only if the course meets the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021: at least 54 months of study in English, a 12-month internship at the same university, in-person clinical training and eligibility for a licence to practise in Russia. The NMC keeps no list of approved universities, so ask for written confirmation of each point. See NMC rules.
  • World Directory of Medical Schools. We could not read the WDOMS entry, because the directory blocked our automatic access. Search it yourself.
  • FMGE results, next.

On English medium, the only claim we found is the agent's statement that "the entire MBBS program is delivered in English" with some Russian training for clinical immersion. We could not verify it. An agent's description is not a basis for an NMC-compliant degree; get the university's own wording.

Novosibirsk State Medical University FMGE passing percentage

NBEMS publishes FMGE results by institute, and we searched its reports for 2020 to 2025. No row matched a recognisable Novosibirsk medical university name, so we have no pass rate. That may mean that few or no Indian graduates have sat the exam under this name, which is itself a reason to ask whether the Indian programme exists. We will not guess. For comparison, the Russian average was 26.0% in 2022, 19.4% in 2023, 29.5% in 2024, 18.1% in June 2025 and 30.9% in December 2025, about 25% over 2022–2025.

Universities with published results are on the FMGE pass rate page and in the ranking. The older "MCI passing ratio" means the same thing: FMGE was run for the Medical Council of India before the NMC replaced it.

Safety in Novosibirsk for Indian students

Novosibirsk is in Siberia, about 2,810 km from Moscow, far from the Ukrainian border and from the North Caucasus. The Indian Embassy in Moscow advised in August 2024 that Indians in the Bryansk, Belgorod and Kursk regions take precautions and relocate temporarily; Novosibirsk is not named. We found no published incident involving NSMU students. Advisories can change, so check mea.gov.in before you travel. Practical points:

  • Cold. The January mean is about −17.0 °C, among the lowest of the cities in our list. Do not leave winter clothing for later.
  • Distance. A family emergency means a flight of 4.5 hours from Moscow after the Gulf or Delhi leg. Keep passport and visa copies with your parents and know the Embassy numbers.
  • Residence security. Ask what entry control and night duty the hostel has.
  • Insurance. Check that it covers emergency treatment and return to India.
  • Never accept a job or "contract" offer that involves the Russian military.

Life in Novosibirsk for Kerala students

Novosibirsk had 1,633,595 people at the 2021 census and is the largest city east of the Urals in our list. Its metro opened in 1985. The climate is continental: the January mean is about −17.0 °C and the July mean about 19.5 °C. The first winter is the hard part for a student from Kerala; budget for a proper down jacket, insulated boots, gloves, hat and thermal wear before the first term.

Illustration: Siberian winters are long; budget for proper winter clothing in the first year.

We have no verified information on Indian groceries, Indian restaurants or a Malayali community in Novosibirsk, so we do not describe them. Plan to cook in the hostel and to bring spices from home. Novosibirsk is on Moscow time plus four hours, so it is 1.5 hours ahead of India: calls home in the evening are easy.

Novosibirsk: 2810 km from Moscow in a straight line; local time is 1.5 h ahead of India.

The university is at Krasny Prospekt 52, Novosibirsk. The distance from Novosibirsk to Moscow is about 2,810 km in a straight line: about 4.5 hours by air, or 43–50 hours by train (sources differ). The nearest airport is Novosibirsk Tolmachevo (OVB), and it is operating.

From Kerala there is no direct flight to Russia. The usual route is Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram or Kozhikode to Moscow through Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Doha or Delhi, then the flight to Novosibirsk. Book ahead and keep documents in hand baggage. See the universities page for the map of all cities.

Scholarships, syllabus and courses

We found no NSMU scholarship that reduces tuition for Indian students. The Russian government offers a limited number of state-funded places to foreign citizens each year through its quota programme, applied for on the official education-in-russia.com portal; competition is high and places in medicine are few. Indian families should plan to pay the full fee.

The General Medicine syllabus follows the Russian federal standard for specialty 31.05.01. We did not find the NSMU curriculum. A typical six-year plan looks like this; ask the university for its own before you sign:

YearsMain subjects
1–2Anatomy, histology, physiology, biochemistry, biology, Latin, Russian language
3Pathology, pharmacology, microbiology, propaedeutics of internal diseases, general surgery
4–5Internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, pediatrics, neurology, infectious diseases, psychiatry
6Clinical rotations in hospitals and the state final examinations

Basic sciences come first, then clinical subjects, then hospital practice. The only programme we consider for this page is General Medicine.

NSMU compared with similar universities

Because NSMU's own figures are missing, the table compares it with the other Novosibirsk option and with two universities at a lower fee. The table uses first-year tuition and the combined FMGE pass rate for 2022–2025 from the NBEMS reports.

UniversityCityTuition per yearFMGE 2022–2025
Novosibirsk State Medical UniversityNovosibirsk₹7.4 lakh (agent figure, doubtful)no result found
Novosibirsk State University (Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies)Novosibirsk₹6.7 lakh (agent figure)no result found
Bashkir State Medical UniversityUfa₹5.5 lakh27.9%
Kazan State Medical UniversityKazan₹5.4 lakh30.5%
Fees at the Central Bank of Russia rate of 15 October 2026. Both Novosibirsk figures are single-agent quotes. Kazan State Medical University's price page we could read was labelled 2023-24; confirm current fees with each university.

The two universities with published fees and FMGE results cost less than the agent's figure for NSMU and have FMGE rates above the Russian average of about 25%. Their fees come from the universities, not from agents. If NSMU's price is not clarified by an official order, the comparison favours Ufa or Kazan on cost and on evidence. See the full ranking by FMGE results.

After graduation: FMGE, internship and registration in Kerala

NSMU awards the Russian specialist diploma in General Medicine after six years. To practise in India, a graduate then needs to:

  1. Pass FMGE, held by NBEMS three times a year since 2026 (the NMC plans to replace it with NExT, with no date yet).
  2. Complete a 12-month supervised internship in India, as the NMC requires for foreign graduates.
  3. Register with the Travancore-Cochin Medical Council to practise in Kerala.

After registration, graduates can take NEET-PG for postgraduate seats in India like any other doctor. Practising in Russia needs Russian accreditation and fluent Russian. Plan for a year or more between the diploma and the first salary in India. Without an FMGE record for NSMU, assume the exam is the usual hurdle, about three in four Russian-trained candidates not passing at a sitting, and prepare from the first year.

Novosibirsk State Medical University: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MBBS fee at Novosibirsk State Medical University for Indian students?

We found no official figure. One agent lists 650,000 roubles a year, about ₹7.4 lakh at the Central Bank of Russia rate of 15 October 2026, but the same agent's FAQ gives $25,000–30,000 for six years, so the number is unreliable. Ask NSMU for its price order for foreign students and confirm in writing.

What are the hostel facilities and hostel fees at Novosibirsk State Medical University?

The only figure is an agent's 18,000 roubles a year, about ₹20,000. We found no official hostel page for foreigners. Ask the international office for the rate, room type, kitchen and security in writing.

What NEET score is required for admission to Novosibirsk State Medical University?

You need the NEET-UG qualifying score for your category: for the 2026 intake that is 213 out of 720 for general and EWS candidates and 177 for SC, ST and OBC (in 2025 it was 144 and 113; the marks rose in 2026 after the exam was re-held). We found no higher cut-off published by the university. Ask whether there is an entrance test or interview for foreigners.

Does MBBS at Novosibirsk State Medical University meet NMC rules and is it taught in English?

We could not confirm that NSMU runs an English-medium General Medicine programme for foreigners; only an agent claims it. The NMC requires the whole course in English, at least 54 months of study and a 12-month internship at the same university. Get the university's written confirmation of each point before you pay.

Are there students from Kerala at Novosibirsk State Medical University, and is Indian food available in Novosibirsk?

We found no count of Indian or Malayali students at NSMU and no verified information on Indian groceries in Novosibirsk. Ask the international office to connect you with a current student from Kerala; if it cannot, consider that when you decide.
