Novosibirsk State University: MBBS Fees, Hostel, NEET Cut-Off and Admission for Indian Students

Novosibirsk State University (NSU) in Siberia is a national research university, not a medical university: medicine is taught in its Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies. The only MBBS fee we found is an agent figure of about 591,500 roubles a year (₹6.7 lakh) that the same page converts to ₹3.85 lakh, and no official English-medium programme or FMGE result could be confirmed.

In short: Novosibirsk State University (NSU) is a federal national research university founded in 1958 in Novosibirsk; its medical programmes sit in the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies. The only MBBS tuition figure we found is an agent average of 591,500 roubles a year (range 533,000–650,000), about ₹6.7 lakh, and the same agent page also states ₹3.85 lakh, so the figures disagree. We found no official English-medium General Medicine programme for foreigners, no hostel fee from the university and no FMGE result under its name. Ask for written answers before you pay.

Novosibirsk State University, known as NSU (in Russian НГУ), is a federal state autonomous institution of higher education with the status of a national research university. It was founded by a decree of the USSR Council of Ministers of 9 January 1958, and classes began in 1959. Its legal address is Pirogova street 1, Novosibirsk 630090, with the main building at Pirogova street 2. Medicine is taught in the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies (IMMT), which includes the V. Zelman Faculty of Medicine and Psychology. Some sources still use the older name, Institute of Medicine and Psychology.

Names to keep apart. Searches for Novosibirsk State University Russia, NSU Novosibirsk National Research State University or Novosibirsk State University medicine lead here. Novosibirsk State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (Sibstrin) is a different, construction-focused university, and Novosibirsk State Medical University (NSMU) is a separate institution with its own page. Check that your admission letter names Novosibirsk State University and the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies. We found no official count of Indian students or of students from Kerala.

Novosibirsk State University MBBS fees for Indian students

We found one source for an MBBS fee at NSU: an agent page (selectyouruniversity.com) that gives an average annual tuition of 591,500 roubles, with a range of 533,000 to 650,000 roubles. At today's rate the average is about ₹6.7 lakh a year, and the range is about ₹6.0 to ₹7.4 lakh. The same page also states about ₹3.85 lakh a year and a hostel of about ₹70,000 a year. A rouble figure and a rupee figure on the same page should match; here ₹3.85 lakh is some 40% below the rouble figure at today's rate, so either the rupee number is stale or the rouble number is wrong. The page does not name the programme or the language, and gives no year. We found no NSU price order for foreign students.

The university's general page on tuition fees (nsu.ru) was not reachable from our side. Ask the NSU admissions office for the current tuition for General Medicine 31.05.01 for foreign citizens, with the order number and date, and for the language line.

Tuition, 6 years (agent figure)₹40.2 lakh
Converted at the Central Bank of Russia rate of 2026-10-15. Food, insurance, visa and flights are extra; see the fees page.

The table above multiplies the agent's average by six, giving about ₹40 lakh in tuition. That is the weakest number on this page: it is an average from an agent, not a quotation, and the same page says something different in rupees. Plan on a range of about ₹3.9 to ₹7.4 lakh a year until NSU gives you an order, add a reserve of 10–20% for increases and for the rouble-rupee rate, and ask whether the fee in the contract is fixed for the whole course.

Living cost in Novosibirsk

Beyond tuition and hostel, a monthly budget in Novosibirsk is made of food, a mobile plan and internet, the metro and local transport, study material and winter clothing in the first year. The city has about 1.6 million people. We have no verified monthly figure for it, so we do not give one. Ask senior Indian students for their real spend before you fix the family budget.

Novosibirsk State University hostel and hostel fees

The only hostel figure is the agent's ₹70,000 a year. It is given in rupees, not roubles, and comes from the same page as the doubtful fee, so use it only as a rough guide. We found no official hostel page for foreign students. Ask the international office, in writing, for the yearly rate in roubles, the room type, the number of students per room, the kitchen, the distance to the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies and its clinical bases, and whether a place is kept for all six years.

Families also ask about a girls hostel at Novosibirsk State University. Russian residences usually allocate rooms or floors by gender, but the rules differ. Ask how female students are placed, who controls the entrance and what the evening rules are.

NEET cut-off and eligibility for NSU

NSU does not publish a NEET cut-off above the national qualifying score in the sources we found. What you need is the NEET-UG qualifying score for your category, because without it an Indian graduate cannot practise in India:

  • NEET-UG: qualified, result valid for three years. In NEET-UG 2026 the qualifying score was 213 out of 720 for general and EWS, 194 for general PwBD and 177 for SC, ST and OBC (the 3 May exam was cancelled after a paper leak and re-held on 21 June 2026; the result came on 16 July 2026). In 2025 it was 144, 127 and 113.
  • Class 12: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, with at least 50% in PCB (40% for reserved categories).
  • Age: 17 by 31 December of the admission year.

As a research university NSU may run its own entrance procedure for medicine, but we have not confirmed its format or any entrance exam for foreign applicants, and there is no published acceptance rate. Ask for the list of requirements and the deadline for your intake. The full eligibility and documents list is on our admission page.

What to confirm before you apply to NSU

Medicine at a classical university is a different product from a stand-alone medical university, and NMC conditions apply in the same way. Put these questions to the admissions office in writing, and keep the replies:

  1. Does NSU admit foreign citizens to General Medicine 31.05.01 in English? Ask for the page of the official site that says so.
  2. In which language is each year taught, including hospital practice? The NMC needs at least 54 months of study in English.
  3. What is the fee for my group and my intake year, with the order number and date?
  4. Will I get the Russian specialist diploma in General Medicine and be eligible to practise in Russia? The NMC needs eligibility for a licence to practise in the country of study.
  5. Is the whole course, including the internship, done at NSU and its clinical bases? The NMC wants the whole course in one institution, and the internship at the same university.
  6. How many Indian students are enrolled now, and can I speak to a Malayali student?
  7. How many Indian graduates have sat FMGE and passed, with NBEMS score cards?

If NSU cannot answer the first, second and fourth questions in writing, do not pay.

Admission process at Novosibirsk State University

  1. Confirm the programme

Get written confirmation of the English-medium programme, the fee line and the NMC points above, before any payment.

  2. Apply

Send scans of your passport, Class 10 and 12 mark sheets and NEET score card to the international admissions office, directly or through us.

  3. Invitation and visa

The university requests your study invitation from the Russian migration authorities. With it you apply for the student visa; the nearest Russian consulate to Kerala is in Chennai.

  4. Travel to Novosibirsk

Fly to Moscow through a Gulf hub or Delhi, then on to Novosibirsk. The university completes your migration registration after arrival.

Apply soon after NEET results, because the invitation and visa take several weeks. The general admission process page explains documents, apostille through NORKA Roots and the visa in detail.

Novosibirsk State University ranking and recognition

This is the one place where NSU is stronger than most pages in our list, with a caveat. English Wikipedia's infobox reports that NSU is 461st in the QS World University Rankings (2026), in the 801+ band of Times Higher Education (2023) and 579th in US News (2023). We have not checked these at the source, and they rank the whole university, not its medical programme. A world ranking is not an NMC criterion. Three things matter more:

  • NMC rules. The degree is valid in India only if the course meets the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021: at least 54 months of study in English, a 12-month internship at the same university, in-person clinical training and eligibility for a licence to practise in Russia. The NMC keeps no list of approved universities, so ask for written confirmation of each point. See NMC rules.
  • World Directory of Medical Schools. We could not read the WDOMS entry, because the directory blocked our automatic access. Search it yourself.
  • FMGE results, next.

On English medium, the only claim we found is the agent's "English" in the medium field. We found no official statement that NSU teaches General Medicine to foreigners in English. Get the university's own wording.

Novosibirsk State University FMGE passing percentage

NBEMS publishes FMGE results by institute, and we searched its reports for 2020 to 2025. No row matched a recognisable Novosibirsk State University name, so we have no pass rate. It may be that few or no Indian graduates have sat the exam under this name. We will not guess. For comparison, the Russian average was 26.0% in 2022, 19.4% in 2023, 29.5% in 2024, 18.1% in June 2025 and 30.9% in December 2025, about 25% over 2022–2025.

Universities with published results are on the FMGE pass rate page and in the ranking. The older "MCI passing ratio" means the same thing: FMGE was run for the Medical Council of India before the NMC replaced it.

Safety in Novosibirsk for Indian students

Novosibirsk is in Siberia, about 2,810 km from Moscow, far from the Ukrainian border and from the North Caucasus. The Indian Embassy in Moscow advised in August 2024 that Indians in the Bryansk, Belgorod and Kursk regions take precautions and relocate temporarily; Novosibirsk is not named. We found no published incident involving NSU students. Advisories can change, so check mea.gov.in before you travel. Practical points:

  • Cold. The January mean is about −17.0 °C. Do not leave winter clothing for later.
  • Distance. A family emergency means a flight of 4.5 hours from Moscow after the Gulf or Delhi leg. Keep passport and visa copies with your parents and know the Embassy numbers.
  • Residence security. Ask what entry control and night duty the hostel has.
  • Insurance. Check that it covers emergency treatment and return to India.
  • Never accept a job or "contract" offer that involves the Russian military.

Life in Novosibirsk for Kerala students

Novosibirsk had 1,633,595 people at the 2021 census and is the largest city east of the Urals in our list. Its metro opened in 1985. The climate is continental: the January mean is about −17.0 °C and the July mean about 19.5 °C. The first winter is the hard part for a student from Kerala; budget for a proper down jacket, insulated boots, gloves, hat and thermal wear before the first term.

Illustration: Siberian winters are long; budget for proper winter clothing in the first year.

We have no verified information on Indian groceries, Indian restaurants or a Malayali community in Novosibirsk, so we do not describe them. Plan to cook in the hostel and to bring spices from home. Novosibirsk is on Moscow time plus four hours, so it is 1.5 hours ahead of India.

Novosibirsk: 2810 km from Moscow in a straight line; local time is 1.5 h ahead of India.

The university is on Pirogova street, Novosibirsk. The distance from Novosibirsk to Moscow is about 2,810 km in a straight line: about 4.5 hours by air, or 43–50 hours by train (sources differ). The nearest airport is Novosibirsk Tolmachevo (OVB), and it is operating.

From Kerala there is no direct flight to Russia. The usual route is Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram or Kozhikode to Moscow through Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Doha or Delhi, then the flight to Novosibirsk. See the universities page for the map of all cities.

Scholarships, syllabus and courses

We found no NSU scholarship for medicine that reduces tuition for Indian students. The Russian government offers a limited number of state-funded places to foreign citizens each year through its quota programme, applied for on the official education-in-russia.com portal; competition is high and places in medicine are few. Indian families should plan to pay the full fee.

The General Medicine syllabus follows the Russian federal standard for specialty 31.05.01. We did not find the NSU medical curriculum. A typical six-year plan looks like this; ask the university for its own before you sign:

YearsMain subjects
1–2Anatomy, histology, physiology, biochemistry, biology, Latin, Russian language
3Pathology, pharmacology, microbiology, propaedeutics of internal diseases, general surgery
4–5Internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, pediatrics, neurology, infectious diseases, psychiatry
6Clinical rotations in hospitals and the state final examinations

Basic sciences come first, then clinical subjects, then hospital practice. The IMMT also has a psychology faculty, which we did not check. The only programme we consider for this page is General Medicine.

NSU compared with similar universities

The table compares NSU with the other Novosibirsk option and with two universities that publish their fees and FMGE results. It uses first-year tuition and the combined FMGE pass rate for 2022–2025 from the NBEMS reports.

UniversityCityTuition per yearFMGE 2022–2025
Novosibirsk State University (IMMT)Novosibirsk₹6.7 lakh (agent figure, doubtful)no result found
Novosibirsk State Medical UniversityNovosibirsk₹7.4 lakh (agent figure, doubtful)no result found
Bashkir State Medical UniversityUfa₹5.5 lakh27.9%
Kazan State Medical UniversityKazan₹5.4 lakh30.5%
Fees at the Central Bank of Russia rate of 15 October 2026. Both Novosibirsk figures are single-agent quotes. Kazan State Medical University's price page we could read was labelled 2023-24; confirm current fees with each university.

Both Novosibirsk figures come from agents and neither university has an FMGE record we can show. Bashkir and Kazan cost less, publish their fees, and have FMGE rates above the Russian average of about 25%. NSU's real advantage, if the English programme exists, is the university's research standing; that does not replace the NMC checks. See the full ranking by FMGE results.

After graduation: FMGE, internship and registration in Kerala

If NSU awards the Russian specialist diploma in General Medicine after six years, a graduate then needs to:

  1. Pass FMGE, held by NBEMS three times a year since 2026 (the NMC plans to replace it with NExT, with no date yet).
  2. Complete a 12-month supervised internship in India, as the NMC requires for foreign graduates.
  3. Register with the Travancore-Cochin Medical Council to practise in Kerala.

After registration, graduates can take NEET-PG for postgraduate seats in India like any other doctor. Practising in Russia needs Russian accreditation and fluent Russian. Plan for a year or more between the diploma and the first salary in India. Without an FMGE record for NSU, assume the exam is the usual hurdle, about three in four Russian-trained candidates not passing at a sitting, and prepare from the first year.

Novosibirsk State University: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MBBS fee at Novosibirsk State University for Indian students?

We found no official figure. One agent page gives an average of 591,500 roubles a year (range 533,000–650,000), about ₹6.7 lakh at the Central Bank of Russia rate of 15 October 2026, but the same page also says about ₹3.85 lakh, so it is unreliable. Ask NSU for its price order for foreign students and confirm in writing.

What are the hostel facilities and hostel fees at Novosibirsk State University?

The only figure is an agent's ₹70,000 a year. We found no official hostel page for foreigners. Ask the international office for the rate in roubles, the room type, the kitchen and the security in writing.

What NEET score is required for admission to Novosibirsk State University?

You need the NEET-UG qualifying score for your category: for the 2026 intake that is 213 out of 720 for general and EWS candidates and 177 for SC, ST and OBC (in 2025 it was 144 and 113; the marks rose in 2026 after the exam was re-held). We found no higher cut-off published by NSU. Ask whether there is an entrance test or interview for foreigners.

Does MBBS at Novosibirsk State University meet NMC rules and is it taught in English?

We could not confirm that NSU runs an English-medium General Medicine programme for foreigners; only an agent lists English. The NMC requires the whole course in English, at least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same university and eligibility to practise in Russia. Get NSU's written confirmation of each point before you pay.

Are there students from Kerala at Novosibirsk State University, and is Indian food available in Novosibirsk?

We found no count of Indian or Malayali students at NSU and no verified information on Indian groceries in Novosibirsk. Ask the international office to connect you with a current student from Kerala; if it cannot, consider that when you decide.
