RUDN University: MBBS Fees, Hostel, NEET Cut-Off and Admission for Indian Students

RUDN University, the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia in Moscow, charges 12,000 US dollars a year for General Medicine in English under its fee order of 19 January 2026. That is about ₹11.4 lakh a year and about ₹68 lakh over six years, among the highest in our list, and Moscow is also the most expensive city to live in. Here are the fees in rupees, the hostel range, the QS figures as RUDN states them, and the FMGE results year by year.

In short: RUDN University is a public university in Moscow, founded in 1960. Its fee order of 19 January 2026 lists 12,000 US dollars a year for General Medicine in English, about ₹11.4 lakh, so six years cost about ₹68 lakh in tuition alone. Over 2022–2025 its graduates passed FMGE at a combined 36.6%, above the Russian average of about 25%, but only 82 candidates sat the exam in those years. The university lists a separate English-language programme, and you should still get the English-medium status in writing.

RUDN University is a federal state autonomous institution of higher education in Moscow, so it is a public university, not a private college. Its full name is the Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, and you will see it written as Peoples Friendship University of Russia, PFUR, RUDN Russia, or the Patrice Lumumba University in Russia. They are all one institution. The university was founded in 1960 and its address is Miklukho-Maklaya str. 6, Moscow 117198.

RUDN says it has more than 13,000 international students from 160 countries. That figure is the university's own and we have not checked it; we also found no count of Indian students or of students from Kerala. For a family from Kerala, the main facts are the fee, which is high, and the city, which is Moscow itself: no long onward trip, but the highest cost of living of any city on our list. The medicine programme is the Faculty of Medicine, which is how the NBEMS FMGE reports name it.

RUDN University fees for Indian students

Families searching for RUDN University fees or Peoples Friendship University of Russia MBBS fees will find the university's own figures easy to confirm, because they are in an official fee order. Order No. 33-r of 19 January 2026 applies from 1 January 2026 and replaces the order of 20 December 2024. It lists the English-language General Medicine programme (31.05.01, six years) at 12,000 US dollars a year, or 10,750 euros, or 87,700 Chinese yuan. The list is for foreign citizens from far-abroad countries, which includes India. The table we read shows the price without VAT, so ask whether VAT is added to Indian students' contracts.

Six years at today's fee (fees usually rise each year)INR
Tuition, 6 years₹68.4 lakh
Converted at the Central Bank of Russia rate of 2026-10-15. Food, insurance, visa and flights are extra; see the fees page.

In rupees, the RUDN University fee structure for 2026 comes to roughly ₹11.4 lakh a year in tuition at today's rate, and about ₹68 lakh over six years if the fee never rose. The order is dated January 2026 and we have not seen a later one, so treat it as the current price list for the 2026-27 intake and ask the university for the order that applies to your year of entry. Because the fee is in dollars, the rupee-dollar rate moves the cost of every instalment; keep a reserve of 10–20% for increases and for the exchange rate.

The same order and the university site list other numbers that parents often confuse with the main fee:

  • Russian-language General Medicine: 10,500 US dollars a year (about ₹10.0 lakh) in the same order. This is the track taught in Russian and is a different programme.
  • Preparatory Faculty: 4,900 US dollars per academic year (about ₹4.7 lakh), a Russian-language year before medicine. It applies to students who need the language first. We could not confirm whether English-track students must take Russian classes during the degree, so ask.
  • Euro and yuan figures: the order gives the same fee in euros and yuan. The dollar figure is the one to use; ask in which currency the contract is paid and who bears bank charges.

Food and transportNo price data in our sources; Moscow is the most expensive city on our list

FlightsKerala to Moscow via a Gulf hub or Delhi; no domestic flight needed

Compare RUDN with other universities on the MBBS in Russia fees page. At about ₹11.4 lakh a year, its undergraduate tuition is about twice that of Bashkir State Medical University and close to Pirogov University in Moscow. For a Kerala family it is worth comparing the full six-year cost with the fees of Kerala private medical colleges for the same years, as current figures change each year.

Living cost in Moscow

Moscow is the most expensive place to live among the cities on our list. We have no verified monthly figure for Moscow, so we do not give one. A student's monthly budget in Moscow is made of the hostel (see below), food, a mobile plan and internet, the metro and other transport, study material and winter clothing. Rent outside the hostel and eating out are where Moscow costs rise fastest. Ask Indian seniors at RUDN for their real monthly spend, and decide whether the family can pay for the cost of Moscow on top of the tuition for six years.

Hostel and hostel fees at RUDN University

RUDN's accommodation page gives a hostel price of 1,100 to 17,500 roubles per month, which is about ₹1,250 to ₹19,800, and the price depends on the room type. The university's international FAQ rounds the range to 1,000–17,000 roubles. The gap between the cheapest and the dearest room is large, so a student who wants the low end must ask which rooms are available to first-year foreign students, how many people share, and whether the contract fixes the room type. We do not have a verified number of hostel places for the medical faculty.

Parents also ask about the girls hostel at RUDN. We have no information on how rooms are allocated. Ask the accommodation office whether female students can be placed in a separate block or floor, what the entry control is, and whether there are cameras. Ask also about kitchens, because most Indian students cook at least some meals.

NEET cut-off and eligibility for RUDN

RUDN does not publish a NEET cut-off above the national qualifying score. What you need is the NEET-UG qualifying score for your category, because without it an Indian graduate cannot practise in India:

  • NEET-UG: qualified, result valid for three years. In NEET-UG 2026 the qualifying score was 213 out of 720 for general and EWS, 194 for general PwBD and 177 for SC, ST and OBC (the 3 May exam was cancelled after a paper leak and re-held on 21 June 2026; the result came on 16 July 2026). In 2025 it was 144, 127 and 113.
  • Class 12: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, with at least 50% in PCB (40% for reserved categories).
  • Age: 17 by 31 December of the admission year.

We do not know whether RUDN holds an entrance test or interview for Indian applicants to the English track; ask in writing. There is no published acceptance rate for the Peoples Friendship University of Russia that we could find. In practice, students who meet the criteria and pay the fee are usually admitted, and the real filter is FMGE six years later. See the full eligibility and documents list.

Admission process at RUDN University

  1. Apply online

Send scans of your passport, Class 10 and 12 mark sheets and NEET score card to RUDN's admissions office, directly or through us. Ask for the 2026-27 fee order in the same message.

  2. Admission letter and contract

Read the contract for the fee and its currency, the programme (English, not the Russian-language track), the language of instruction and the internship.

  3. Invitation and visa

Ask who files your study invitation and how long it takes. With it you apply for the student visa; the nearest Russian consulate to Kerala is in Chennai.

  4. Travel to Moscow

Fly from Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram or Kozhikode through a Gulf hub or Delhi to Moscow. Ask whether the university meets new students at the airport and completes your migration registration after arrival.

Apply soon after NEET results, because the invitation and visa take several weeks. The general admission process page explains documents, apostille through NORKA Roots and the visa in detail.

Is RUDN University taught in English?

The fee order lists a separate programme, "31.05.01 General Medicine (in English)", six years, next to the Russian-language track. That is good evidence that an English group exists. It does not say that every subject in all six years, including clinical practice in hospitals, is taught in English. The NMC needs the whole course in English, so ask RUDN for a letter that states English-medium, six years, and the internship at the same university, and ask how clinical training works with Russian-speaking patients.

Ranking and recognition: RUDN QS ranking

Families search for the Peoples Friendship University of Russia QS ranking, its world ranking and its ranking in Russia. Here is what RUDN says on its own English site. RUDN says it stands at 367 in the QS World University Rankings and is third among Russian universities, without naming the edition. Another RUDN page gives 316 in QS for 2024. The two numbers do not match and we could not tie them to specific QS editions. A secondary source reported yet another figure; we do not use it. Check the current QS table yourself. The QS ranking is for the whole university, not for the medical faculty, and says little about teaching quality for an Indian student. Three things matter more:

  • NMC rules. The degree is valid in India only if the course meets the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021: at least 54 months of study in English, a 12-month internship at the same university, and eligibility for a licence to practise in Russia. The NMC keeps no list of approved universities, so ask RUDN for written confirmation of each point. See NMC rules.
  • World Directory of Medical Schools. We did not manage to check the RUDN entry, as the directory blocked our request. Check the listing yourself before you apply.
  • FMGE results, below, which show how its Indian graduates actually do.

FMGE passing percentage of RUDN University

NBEMS publishes FMGE results for every foreign university. It lists RUDN graduates under "Peoples Friendship University of Russia Faculty of Medicine". The numbers are small. In 2022, 0 of 13 passed (0.0%) against a Russian average of 26.0%. In 2023, 27.3% passed (6 of 22) against 19.4%. In 2024, 45.5% passed (10 of 22) against 29.5%. In June 2025, 16.7% passed (1 of 6) against 18.1%. In December 2025, 68.4% passed (13 of 19) against 30.9%. Earlier results: 25.0% in 2020 and 36.4% in 2021, both above the Russian average of those years.

Source: NBEMS FMGE reports. Annual figures combine both sessions.

Over 2022–2025 combined, 30 of 82 candidates passed, which is 36.6% against a Russian average of about 25%. RUDN has been above the Russian average in five of the seven reports, and below it in 2022 and in June 2025. Fewer than 300 candidates sat the exam in 2022–2025, so RUDN is not ranked on our ranking, and one batch can move the result by tens of points; the December 2025 figure rests on 19 candidates. The reports do not separate English and Russian tracks. The older "MCI passing ratio" is the same exam. Compare all universities on the FMGE pass rate page.

Safety at RUDN University and in Moscow

Moscow is not one of the border regions (Bryansk, Belgorod, Kursk) for which the Indian Embassy in Moscow advised in August 2024 that Indians take precautions and relocate temporarily, and we found no incident involving Indian students at RUDN in our research. Moscow is also where the Indian Embassy is, which makes consular help easier than in most other cities. Check the current advisory at mea.gov.in before travel, because the situation can change. What we suggest:

  • Register with the Indian Embassy in Moscow after arrival and keep its number in your phone.
  • Ask RUDN about hostel security: guards, entry control, cameras.
  • Take the usual precautions of a very large city, and learn how the metro works in the first week.
  • Never accept a job or "contract" offer that involves the Russian military.

Life in Moscow for Kerala students

Moscow is the capital and the largest city in Russia, with the most flights, the most services and the highest prices. For a student from Kerala, the advantage is access: the embassy, direct Delhi flights and many Indian travellers pass through. As a capital city with a large foreign community, Moscow has Indian restaurants and shops that sell Indian groceries, which smaller Russian cities often lack; ask RUDN's Indian seniors where they buy rice, spices and dal, and cook in the hostel kitchen to keep costs down. Moscow time is 2.5 hours behind India, which is workable for calls home.

Winters are cold, with months below zero, so ask seniors what they wear and buy in the first autumn. A good winter coat, boots and thermal layers are part of the first-year budget.

Moscow: 0 km from Moscow in a straight line; local time is 2.5 h behind India.

RUDN University is in Moscow itself, so the distance to Moscow is 0 km: you arrive in the city where you will study. The main building is at Miklukho-Maklaya str. 6. Moscow is the arrival point for almost every Indian student in Russia.

From Kerala there is no direct flight to Russia. The usual route is Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram or Kozhikode to Moscow through Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Doha or Delhi. Aeroflot flies Delhi–Moscow nonstop about daily. No onward domestic flight is needed. Ask RUDN which airport is best for your flight and whether it can arrange a pickup. Read more on the universities page and the map of all cities.

Scholarships, syllabus and courses

Many families ask about a Peoples Friendship University of Russia scholarship. We found no RUDN scholarship that reduces tuition for Indian students who pay themselves; ask the admissions office whether any discount exists and for whom. The Russian government offers a limited number of state-funded places to foreign citizens each year through its quota programme, applied for on the official education-in-russia.com portal; competition is high and places in medicine are few. Indian families should plan to pay the full fee.

The General Medicine syllabus follows the Russian federal standard for specialty 31.05.01. A typical six-year plan looks like this; ask RUDN for its own curriculum before you sign:

YearsMain subjects
1–2Anatomy, histology, physiology, biochemistry, biology, Latin, Russian language
3Pathology, pharmacology, microbiology, propaedeutics of internal diseases, general surgery
4–5Internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, pediatrics, neurology, infectious diseases, psychiatry
6Clinical rotations in hospitals and the state final examinations

The first years cover the basic sciences, then clinical subjects follow, with hospital practice in the senior years. Clinical training means talking to Russian-speaking patients, so students who learn Russian well in the first two years cope much better. The programme we can confirm is General Medicine, in English and in Russian.

RUDN compared with similar universities

RUDN's fee puts it with the Moscow universities. The table uses first-year tuition and the combined FMGE pass rate for 2022–2025 from the NBEMS reports, with Bashkir State Medical University added as a mid-priced example outside Moscow.

UniversityCityTuition per yearFMGE 2022–2025
RUDN UniversityMoscow₹11.4 lakh36.6% (30 of 82; not ranked)
Pirogov Russian National Research Medical UniversityMoscow₹11.3 lakhNot ranked (fewer than 300 candidates)
Sechenov First Moscow State Medical UniversityMoscow₹14.1 lakhNot ranked (fewer than 300 candidates)
Bashkir State Medical UniversityUfa₹5.5 lakh27.9%
Fees at the Central Bank of Russia rate of 15 October 2026. Pirogov and Sechenov fees are from their 2025-26 price lists; RUDN's is from the order of 19 January 2026. Confirm current fees with each university.

RUDN costs about the same as Pirogov, less than Sechenov, and about twice Bashkir. Its FMGE record rests on few candidates but is higher than Bashkir's combined result. Whether that is worth about ₹6 lakh more a year than a university in Ufa is a decision for the family; it should not be made on the QS number alone. See the full ranking by FMGE results.

After graduation: FMGE, internship and registration in Kerala

RUDN awards the Russian specialist diploma in General Medicine after six years. To practise in India, a graduate then needs to:

  1. Pass FMGE, held by NBEMS three times a year since 2026 (the NMC plans to replace it with NExT, with no date yet).
  2. Complete a 12-month supervised internship in India, as the NMC requires for foreign graduates.
  3. Register with the Travancore-Cochin Medical Council to practise in Kerala.

After registration, graduates can take NEET-PG for postgraduate seats in India like any other doctor. Practising in Russia is also possible but needs Russian accreditation and fluent Russian. Plan for a year or more between the RUDN diploma and the first salary in India, and include FMGE coaching in the family budget.

RUDN University: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MBBS fee at RUDN University for Indian students?

RUDN's fee order of 19 January 2026 lists 12,000 US dollars a year for General Medicine in English, about ₹11.4 lakh at the Central Bank of Russia rate of 15 October 2026. Over six years that is roughly ₹68 lakh in tuition if the fee did not change. The table shows the price without VAT, so ask about VAT, and add hostel, food, insurance and flights.

What are the hostel facilities and hostel fees at RUDN University?

The university's accommodation page gives a hostel price of 1,100 to 17,500 roubles per month, depending on the room type; its international FAQ rounds this to 1,000–17,000. Ask which room type is offered to you, how many people share and what the security is, including for a girls hostel.

What NEET score is required for admission to RUDN University?

You need the NEET-UG qualifying score for your category: for the 2026 intake that is 213 out of 720 for general and EWS candidates and 177 for SC, ST and OBC (in 2025 it was 144 and 113; the marks rose in 2026 after the exam was re-held). RUDN does not publish a higher cut-off. Ask whether the English track has an entrance test or interview.

Does MBBS at RUDN University meet NMC rules and is it taught in English?

The fee order lists General Medicine "in English" as a separate six-year programme, which is a good sign, but it does not say that all six years including clinical practice are in English. The NMC requires the whole course in English, at least 54 months of study and a 12-month internship at the same university. Get written confirmation of each point.

Are there students from Kerala at RUDN University, and is Indian food available in Moscow?

RUDN says it has more than 13,000 international students from 160 countries, but we found no count of Indian or Kerala students. Moscow has Indian restaurants and Indian grocery shops, but most students cook in hostel kitchens to save money. Ask the university to connect you with Indian seniors.
